Re: Starting to feel too old for my Scirocco
Where you live makes a huge difference to Insurance premiums. I'm 41, no points on my licence, 60% no claims discount and my insurance is £1300 for a Tdi. It's because I live in central London.dimexi wrote:How do you guys manage to get insurance?!¬?!?!?!?!? Mines 272 fully comp: one of the very few advantages of being an old B.

Re: Starting to feel too old for my Scirocco
My comment about where you live making a big difference to insurance premiums seems to have gone unnoticed. Everybody still only says how old they are and how much the insurance costs when your age is just one factor, it's certainly not the only factor.
Age, location, car and driving history are what you need to quote if you are going to tell us how much your insurance is otherwise it's meaningless.

Re: Starting to feel too old for my Scirocco
36 years old
London
19 years licence held
13 years NCB
Scirocco R
Premium £500
A few interesting facts:
My car being DSG made my premium £50 higher than a manual R.
Keeping my car in my garage instead of leaving it parked on the street would cost me £60 more.
A change of job role (within the same office) reduced my premium by £80.

Nah, it's not going unnoticed. You are very right about that - I've lived in various parts of the UK since moving from london, and it has a massive impact on insurance. In fact, I think if you live in a city, your insurance will be relatively high (fullstop) compared to sub-urban areas.Paralla wrote:My comment about where you live making a big difference to insurance premiums seems to have gone unnoticed. I'm early 30s
Car insured in Bristol
2.0tsi Manual
licence held 11 years
No points
10 years no claims
Premium £350 (protected NCD).
Re post above: Does job role affect insurance? I didnt think it did except you are an entertainer or drive for work :o
Having said all this, I always thought NO MATTER where you lived, there are some insurers that simply wont insure a <21 year old on a >200bhp vehicle

Re: Starting to feel too old for my Scirocco
Nope, job role doesn't affect the premium you pay, I was just joking when I said that.dimexi wrote: Re post above: Does job role affect insurance? I didnt think it did except you are an entertainer or drive for work :o
No... I'm joking again. Yes it does affect it. At least with the big insurers... Admiral, Elephant, Esure etc.
Like I said, I was on the verge of changing roles at work (same office, same pay, same seat!!!) at my last insurance renewal time, so I got quotes based on both jobs with the insurers I tried and my new role always came back cheaper.
I've noticed this in past years too, as I was doing a dual role job. One of the roles declared as my occupation always came out cheaper than the other one.

Re: Starting to feel too old for my Scirocco
And the award for most interesting thread on this forum goes too... This one !!
As a mild mannered 46 and a half year old ex dj,the R that is parked outside still puts that huge smile on my face just as much as my old 309 gti did when I was touring the lengths and breadths of the uk back in the early 90's.. Yeah, some may see my R as a mid life crisis thing but what the hey,as they say..
I honestly thought I was too old to be driving the Roc at my age,but thanks to this thread I now feel more justified than ever owning her.. I shall now go to the shops to get my provisions, go the long way round, and give her some beans, before I buy some. Hopefully there will be a few red lights to stop at on the dual carriageways and some poor unsuspecting boy racer will pull up next to me giving me the eye (again).
You already know what comes after that..
Keep it 'Roc'in guys.. Haha
