Oh and I forgot to mention apparently the new Blue motion versions of the Roc's that are coloured Sumatra will not be sumatra , apparently the colour is being dropped and I was told the nearest colour was something called dark Coco , anyway thats was what the guy said to me

After numerous phone calls to the dealer, I have received a Build date of Week 39 (this week)
Told to ring back in a couple of weeks, (not he will ring me)
Very disapponted with dealer/salesman, poor service that I have not received from other manufacturers.
I have owned three Minis and even though the wait for the second two was six months, a week after placing the orders I was given a collection date.
Cannot believe a company the size of VW takes 7 weeks to tell the customer when he may get his car, shame the bloody thing looks so nice.
Hopefully not long now!!
Collected yesterday 20/10
Worth the wait - most certainly

I ordered early September and have been told that the car will be leaving the production line in Week 44 for arrival in Ireland by the 2nd week of December. This is the dealers version which is all which I have to go on at the moment.

GRRRRRRRRRRR How can they possible be tackling the orders in order when my order is pretty similar to yours baring colour and Manual box , plus Digi radio and bluetooth. there is a vast difference between july 30th and Sept 24th

Just like you i thought i was in for a long wait because of the DSG box. When dealer called even he was surprised i think that i got such quick build slot. I thought i was looking at Feb, Mar delivery. Perhaps it's down to how many a dealer is allocated i don't know it is strange though.

Ive had some information from VW, apparently they have had a new ordering system installed which has knackered up the queue allocation for all new scirocco's and other models that have been ordered over the past few months. I ordered mine start of september and although VW couldn't confirm an exact build/delivery date, they did say that i wouldnt get it until 2011 now! As i mentioned, this is the same situation for all VW models and all dealerships across the UK. I am hopefully going to get weekly updates from VW so will post it here when i get them.

Not happy about the prospect of waiting potentially 6 months to get my Roc, but there isnt another car out there i want so will just have to wait! Im sure it will be worth it.

Anyone else in the same situation, i would recommend contacting your dealer for regularly for updates.

Yet I order on the 8th & I've heard nothing

Apparently it's the same situation with Audi's, loads have been pushed back to 2011

hmm, well i got an email from dealer to say it was on its way to the port this morning (that would be a 16day journey) and would be looking at a 3-4 week deliverytime, also got my commission number so i called vw customer service and they said it was in the port at the uk and should be at the dealers within 7 days...

Who do i believe (very odd)

Dom,
I'd go with VW customer services in your case. the 4th ship I mentioned previously should have docked his morning so the dealer system may not have made them aware it had arrived although its still odd to have it sat on the dock for that length of time.
Or, most likely, it caught one of the earlier ships I mentioned &, in the case of the 2nd & 3rd, has gone via Emden or, possible for 1-3, once docked at port in the UK, VW UK have pushed the notice of its arrival to the dealer for them to request from the port. (we have come to the conclusion only very large dealer networks push their cars from port the greater majority must request through VW UK) the arrival notifications most likely don't go to your order contact so not at all surprising he knows nothing

To the rest of you about who have & haven't got build weeks,
Bear in mind your dealers only have a certain allocation per month so if they have already ordered their allowance for that month then you will be waiting longer for a build week than where a dealer has allocation spare. Also if your dealer has a demo car on order (or a cancelled order) that is early on in scheduling that they are willing to tweak the spec on to suit your order you will appear to get up through the ranks quickly.

Daft question but do they run on calender months? I would've thought ordering at the beginning of the month would put me towards the tope of the list!

not if the previous month they had a good run or orders & had already used that allocation.

Heard from my lease co today who pretty much confirmed the above, they also confirmed that if I haven't had my car by 11th January 2011(when it exceeds 16 weeks lead time) I will be entitled to a free hire car courtesy of VW until such time as mine is delivered, not sure if this is exclusive to my dealer or lease co, however it's a pretty bold offer on behalf of VW as if they are doing this for all orders its gonna cost them a fortune in hire costs, maybe it will give them an incentive to ramp up production?

Just to verify I have been offered a courtesy car if no scirocco by mid/late Dec. (16 weeks) from VW dealer. Ordered 19th August went on the VW system 1st Sept. THis is also for a company lease vehicle.

yes i ordered mine through a lease company on the 15th September. Ive been told that it will be here third week into November but i find it hard to believe that i have to wait like this.

A multi-billion company like this and lead times are 3 and 4 months later.....poor poor service

If the production lines are flat out, demand is high but the economic climate is not good..... then you would expect big companies like VW to take a longer term view. VAT is rising here, the banks ain't sorted, etc.. So to expand a business for a short term demand to take on more employees, build extra factory space, etc.. Would you? :shake:

I seem to remember somewhere before the Scirocco Mk3 build started that this car was uncertain in the market place given the Scirocco Mk2's and the Corrado's history of sales. It was put into Portugal to fill the Ford Galaxy pull out and they expected 160,000ish units over 5 years ircc. Thats about 30,000 units per year. We've just past 100,000 units in 2 years so by my reckoning, they are doing well to keep up.

Also, Mk2 Scirocco's from Karmann took 3 to 4 months from placed order to customer acceptance. So not much different there then for a niche market car.

Bottom line, put options on your order which a dealer cannot find in the pool of new cars or choose not to take a dealer's standard order coming into stock with their selected options and its "join the queue".

I placed my order for a 2.0 TDI 170 (in Black) on 23rd September. I'm still waiting for a confirmed build date but my dealer has contacted me and the system has accepted my order and and, looking at what is already in the system, delivery should be around week 3/4 of 2011 - which is what they originally quoted me (14-16 weeks). It's frustrating that I have to wait that long (we all want it now, right?) but not much I can do about it.

I did ask the dealer if there was any way to expedite the order, but he said there wasn't. On the other hand, if I'd decided to order the equivalent Golf then there was a 6 month wait !!

Irrespective of VW business strategy I think the dissatisfaction people report here stems from the lack of communication from and the run around given by VW and their affiliates. I know dealers are franchised, but from a customer point of view you see a VW badge and thats all you see. If you go in to a dealer to buy a car and your VW dealer tells you that if you order today you will have your car by date X, then you kind of expect them to meet their side of deal. You shouldn't as a customer be expected to join a queue of indeterminant length. A lot of people are now being told VW can't even meet their contractural 16 week delivery - though its encouraging to see signs of VW offering compensation in the way of courtesy cars for those ordering on lease contracts.
