Hi, had my Roc 3 weeks now, done neary 2k, every journey has indicated over 50mpg, mostly around 54 but at the pump the real mpg's have been 44. Nothing wrong with my maths or method of working them out.
I put the less than expected mpg's down to the cold time of year and a brand new engine.
I have always "run in" a new engine (keeping to 3000 rpm for about 4k and slowly increasing) despite what sales or manufacturer's peeps might say, so I don't really expect to get the recommended mpg's till I've done around 6 or 7k. Always had the view that if you treat a new engine like a new girl friend, it will pay dividends in the future.

Shakenshack - you don't (in my experience of 5 TDI VWs) get appreciably more mpg 6/7k or even 20k miles as they loosen up. But your computer's mpg readings should'nt be 20% optimistic as the appear to be, more like 8% optimistic.
I've always found that the more miles you put on the engine, the more you put your foot down, negating any real gains. The best I had out of my last Roc (140TDI) was a 350 mile motorway trip from Newcastle to Southampton in the summer. Despite the aircon being on for most of the journey, I averaged 59mpg indicated (55mpg actual), but generally got about 50mpg (indicated) around the doors.

my 2yr old 2.0 tsi, is getting 30-32 av mpg. On a good run i can get above 40 mpg (up to norfolk from essex). But this is my lot i think, in traffic i get 18mpg. to add this is with the odd rag lol!

Shakenshack: Another Monkeyhanger! From H'pool originally, but living in North Shields now. I occasionally go back down for a Saturday night out in Church Street with my cousins.
If you've done 2k miles in 3 weeks I suspect you do plenty of motorway driving, so should see the higher end of what is expected from the 140TDI engine.

Hi guys, i wondered if someone could give me some advice
Ive just put 7 litres of fuel in my 2010 2.0tsi DSG. It was showing 0 miles when i filled up. Ive driven home entirely on the motorway at a constant 55mph. When i parked up the trip computer shows an average mpg of 43.2
However the fuel gauge is again on 0
According to my maths, 7 litres of fuel to do 52 miles is 28 mpg.
should i get this checked out do you think? How come the big discrepancy from the actual mpg to what the trip computer shows for this journey.
Surely 28mpg while trying to max the mpg on a motorway run shows there is a problem
thanks for your help

Don't trust the Fuel Gauge on short fills. It is not unusual for the dial to mis-read. Its not a fault, just the way the system works.

Just before this wonderful government advised everyone to panic buy fuel I topped up after doing a 264 round trip. Trip computer showed 56.2, the actual fill worked out at 54.85, so not too far out on a long trip. Guage was just over two segments over half and I put in 23 litres.
I'm sure I could have got more mpg, but the wife got bored at doing 70.
