Well, I dropped the car off this morning for its service and they had a written up warranty jobcard for the rattle with all the details I gave over the phone on, I updated the girlie with the /7 update which went on the card. I checked all the details on it and they're right so fingers crossed. I'm about 50/50 on whether I'll get "can't find anything wrong" or "we can't get the part" when I pick it up. We shall see later and you guys will be the first to know. Here's hoping.....

.... later that morning I got a phone call! "The clip" is on back order, which means "bingo" because I never used the word "clip" at all so they have actually worked it out and going to do the business :) One happy camper (or will be) so big thanks to all those who've advised and especially RW1 for the details!

Pity they couldn't get my O/S/F wheel off though..... but that's another story for another day ;)

Nice to know it's being acknowledged by the stealer's at least. Let us know when they get them in and I'll be on the phone! :)

Martyd - the downside is that they don't expect to get the part until December! There are obviously a lot of demanding TSi owners out there wanting this fixed, I suspect they underestimated the demand somewhat.

Thanks Bill,
I think I might call in when I'm passing and get them to put one on back order for me

Of course at this point we don't yet know if the clip actually works! One would like to think so.

Yes it does, but not 100% silence.
A very small vibration will be heard which is below the level of the turbocharger sound level. This is because free movement of the vibrating linkage joint in order for it to continue to operate. I don't think you will be dissappointed though.

Although I can quite happilly wait til December I must admit that I'm surprised at the length of the delay. It's not a complex part and could be very easily produced in vast numbers so I do wonder why it's taking then so long. The only reason I can think of is that they're refining and testing the design of it?

Unprecedented demand in all markets. And all have more or less run out of local stock. Not surprising when its a popular engine across so many VAG models, not just VW. Power of the internet!

What is interesting it that its marked as "no production change". Be interesting for someone to look for it on a 2.0ltr engine newly built in the last 3 or 4 weeks, ie. dealer deliveries/customer handover in 3 to 4 weeks time.

Just did some quick searches and the part is being sold for around $75 on some sites!

Hello, rang my dealers in Portsmouth, they confirm the Technical Bulletin 2021062/7 is correct. The only problem is the clip part no. 06J 145 220 A will not be available until 02 December 2011. When it eventually turns up, I hope this will resolve the rattling noise.

Great News, I have today had my service done.. and guess what?? They have ordered the wastegate clip manufactured by VW from Germany, it will take 7 to 10 days to arrive. When I have had it fitted and road tested her I will report my findings people.

AND the fix is free, the cost is picked up jointly by VW and the dealer.

Has anyone got a sound of what this is? I have a creak in the car (can't hear it when music is on), but that sounds like the boot (which I think many people know about), but I just dont want to confuse with this.

Just had my Roc into the dealers to carry out this warranty work on the wastegate rattle. A simple fix as previously mentioned and only took 30mins. Result = much improved. The rattle between 2-3000 rpm is much reduced (around 75-80%) although still slightly noticeable when fully accelerating in higher gears.

Overall very happy with the result and would recommend pursuing this with your dealer. I ordered this at my scheduled service in mid-Oct so not a long wait for me although I am told its now a 3 mth wait due to demand. :D :D :D
