Scirocco Central

Why the hatred of the TDI. I personally have driven diesel cars for years and prefer them to their petrol counterparts. With the TDI you can enjoy the looks of the car without setting your wallet on fire every time you get a little happy with the right foot. I do 20K + miles a year and the price of running a petrol would make it very difficult for me to afford the Scirocco.

Diesel or not the Scirocco is a great car, looks brilliant and will bring a smile to my face when I drive it (when I finally get it that is!)

2.0 TSI drivers need to remember VW have widened the Scirocco range (1.4 TSI + TDI) for commercial reasons. VW have been unlucky in introducing a niche coupe in a major recession and if they don't sell the car in reasonable numbers (9000 was their original UK target for 2009) I am sure they will be reluctant to invest further in the model which would be a shame. I don't think there is any worry about there being too many on the road - I have not seen one on the road (rather that at dealers) since the car was launched.

I don't think that for 20k you can expect exclusiveness...

I wonder if people will say all this when the R20T comes out... then we'll be in the dog house

I've only ever seen the top of one going the other direction... but to be honest, it would be nice to actually see one!

Surely Top Gear awarding it Car of the year will increase sales anyway!

Hmmmmmmm !! you get what you are willing to pay for !! £17.700 = £ 100 lease per month for my TDI, nearer £200 for a TSI with the same bits plus covering 30000 mls a year @ 11p per ml. God knows what your spec £27.000 Roc would have cost me per month plus fuel costs some people have to compromise Has anybody out there moaning about exclusiveness thought about the finacial implications of not having the TDI and 1.4 fitted cars in the range??? How much extra would they be willing to pay for their 2.0 TSI I wonder???

1.4tsi or 2.0 tdi or 2.0 tsi who cares at the end of the day you pick the engine that suits your needs and budget, my last two cars were diesels and now i fancy a petrol for a change,i will probs regret when i see my fuel bill lol

and so by this im guessing you think the 2.0 tsi and 1.4 tsi arent being used as company cars? Any car is likely to be a company car, it simply means one that is provided by the business either for undertaking work as part of a benefits scheme. Therefore you often see bentleys, porsches and a whole range of any other cars being used as company cars.

The word company car doesn't necessarily imply travelling salesman, perhaps just a perk or a benefit for being successful. You can concede that mondeos, vectras even 3 series and A4's fall into company car 'fodder' as they are the car of choice for travelling salesman but I really think you need to be far less opinionated and naive on your views.

Having driven my TDI for a week I have to say... I'm most impressed. Before I got it I had an astra diesel hire car and that makes the Rocco TDI look like the best car ever...

I would have loved to go for the TSI but it really wouldn't have stood up to the car that I owned before my Roc (Impreza STI PPP) so I decided to go for a complete change and am very pleased with it.

It's like saying Well I would have loved to go for a 335 but it wouldn’t have stood up to the M3 I had beforehand, and so I decided to go for something completely different and get a 318...

kippie personally i would probably agree with your in gear times for the diesel it was the only place my tdi A3 showed its hand, in the tsi's i've always tended to drop it a cog to offste the torque advantage tdis had, fortunatley post remap torque levels mean i no longer worry

let me get this right you went for a diesel coz the 2.0tsi wouldnt stand up to your scooby hmmmm errrrrrrr so the the diesel must feel like an 850cc mini
