Why the hatred of the TDI. I personally have driven diesel cars for years and prefer them to their petrol counterparts. With the TDI you can enjoy the looks of the car without setting your wallet on fire every time you get a little happy with the right foot. :p I do 20K + miles a year and the price of running a petrol would make it very difficult for me to afford the Scirocco.

Diesel or not the Scirocco is a great car, looks brilliant and will bring a smile to my face when I drive it (when I finally get it that is!)

2.0 TSI drivers need to remember VW have widened the Scirocco range (1.4 TSI + TDI) for commercial reasons. VW have been unlucky in introducing a niche coupe in a major recession and if they don't sell the car in reasonable numbers (9000 was their original UK target for 2009) I am sure they will be reluctant to invest further in the model which would be a shame. I don't think there is any worry about there being too many on the road - I have not seen one on the road (rather that at dealers) since the car was launched.

I don't think that for 20k you can expect exclusiveness...

...Would be nice tho :D

I wonder if people will say all this when the R20T comes out... then we'll be in the dog house :p

:eyepop: Good point :fall:

I've only ever seen the top of one going the other direction... but to be honest, it would be nice to actually see one! :vibes:

Surely Top Gear awarding it Car of the year will increase sales anyway! :p

Hmmmmmmm !! you get what you are willing to pay for !! £17.700 = £ 100 lease per month for my TDI, nearer £200 for a TSI with the same bits :D plus covering 30000 mls a year @ 11p per ml. God knows what your spec £27.000 Roc would have cost me per month plus fuel costs  some people have to compromise  Has anybody out there moaning about exclusiveness thought about the finacial implications of not having the TDI and 1.4 fitted cars in the range??? How much extra would they be willing to pay for their 2.0 TSI I wonder???

Id sooner they didnt do a TDI altogether. The Scirocco shouldnt fall into the realm of company car fodder as well too many of them on the road, the car will become common place and lose its appeal.

and so by this im guessing you think the 2.0 tsi and 1.4 tsi arent being used as company cars? Any car is likely to be a company car, it simply means one that is provided by the business either for undertaking work as part of a benefits scheme. Therefore you often see bentleys, porsches and a whole range of any other cars being used as company cars.

The word company car doesn't necessarily imply travelling salesman, perhaps just a perk or a benefit for being successful. You can concede that mondeos, vectras even 3 series and A4's fall into company car 'fodder' as they are the car of choice for travelling salesman but I really think you need to be far less opinionated and naive on your views.

[quote="klippie"]Having driven both the petrol and diesel Scirocco's I liked the diesel for the low down grunt, in gear acceleration, 50+mpg, cheaper road tax and insurance. The petrol is a riot its a very fast car superb in fact if you like high reving engines the tdi is just as quick through the gears the problem with all diesels is getting them of the line they just don't pick-up like a petrol engine. 236lb/ft of torque= a fair bit of pull.[/quot

as quick through the gears my ar5e,

Having driven my TDI for a week I have to say... I'm most impressed. Before I got it I had an astra diesel hire car and that makes the Rocco TDI look like the best car ever...

I would have loved to go for the TSI but it really wouldn't have stood up to the car that I owned before my Roc (Impreza STI PPP) so I decided to go for a complete change and am very pleased with it.

Sorry, no offence, but that’s nonsense.
It's like saying Well I would have loved to go for a 335 but it wouldn’t have stood up to the M3 I had beforehand, and so I decided to go for something completely different and get a 318...

When I went to test drive a TSI DSG I did a little experiment on a flat bit of road I timed the in-gear acceleration from 60-70 in my Fabia VRS 130 tdi then drove the same road in the Scirocco and the Fabia was quicker, and since test driving the Scirocco 140 tdi and using my in-built acceleration testing device i.e. my ar5e I discovered the tdi Scirocco was every bit as quick as my VRS...so take what you want from that... :vibes:

kippie personally i would probably agree with your in gear times for the diesel it was the only place my tdi A3 showed its hand, in the tsi's i've always tended to drop it a cog to offste the torque advantage tdis had, fortunatley post remap torque levels mean i no longer worry
