Its not too bad, I get use of my brothers Mk 5 R32 as frequently as I use the Rocco and it must be said the grip levels on the R32 are in another league but as far as cornering goes they're not worlds apart as you might imagine, I'd be happy to take you for a spin if you come along to one of the meets :)
Cheers.. that wold be appreciated. Might try to get my mitts on a demo first so I can really give it a proper push... whilst also scaring the crappy salesman within an inch of his life.

Admittedly Im still considering getting staying in the R32 as it just does everything sooo well (inc drink) but have previously changed my car every 2yrs and went down the same route with my r32 lease. Only problem is that the hand over time is fast approaching but I would happily keep it for another 3yrs if I could :(

Just become so dependent on the handling and low down torque that driving anything else seem like a bit of a drag :eek:

I think the first two things you'll notice is the lack of that intoxicating sound the R32 has but believe it or not low down there is more there in the Roc its higher up where the R32 has it. Its a tough call and I still to this date dont know whether I bought the right car as it was between the R32 and the Scirocco. In the end I decided I wanted to go the turbo route that along with the Mk 6 Golf being released and in my opinion I thought the scirocco was better looking.

Good luck on the choice, I've been there and its not an easy one :)

Thanks for the help. It is a difficult decision, but I guess I should be thankful as its a good situation to be in. With the current R32 being the last of its kind I am tempted to buy myself a nice example and hold onto it... As I am sure residuals will make it worth while. but another part of me thinks I should make the jump to the rocco and come back to the R32 in a few years (with a turbo kit :D )

Or if I should just hold fire and wait for the 4wd version of the rocco :nod:

I had a go in an R32 after getting my Roc. It sounded amazing!!! 8) But didn't feel as fast as it sounded :shrug: . My dad followed me on a short journey and said the R32 was struggling to keep up with the Roc. :clap:

One of the last R32 V6s may be a good buy though if your an enthusiast. There was a great spec one in white at my dealer and it wasn't any more expensive than the roc, great deals to be had :nod: :yes:

The roc is still super exclusive at the mo, hopefully it'll stay that way as it's funny when people are taking your picture on the M1! :D

I'm in exactly the same situation....

R32

+ THE SOUND! Dear lord the SOUND! It's absolutely sickening when I hear one of those go by.... oh the jealousy. I want a car that sounds that good!

+ Performance! I found it to be very very quick. Coming from a Type R with 220bhp the R32 felt more composed and less manic but certainly I was getting up to speed quicker. I'm not sure that a stock Scirocco could come close because my Type R kills remapped GTI's up into 3 figures quite easily... It's only after that does the turbo grunt start to make a difference. It's all my personal experience though I haven't had a R32 back to back with a Scirocco to know. So i'll take you guys findings on board.

- Interior .... Personally I think the brushed alu looks disgusting and inside it's no more special than a 1.6 Sport....

- Handling.... Too heavy.... suspension is great for fast motorway confidence but it absolutely scares the living daylight out of me on a fast country road. Absolutely no feedback what so ever.... coming from my Type R which admittedly has a very stiff suspension I felt like I was driving blind....

- Fuel Economy.... Oh dear oh dear. I had the car for a day and drove a mix of city, motorway, a, b roads etc.. I got an average of 11mpg. Oh yes I was thrashing it but no more than I do in my Type R.... which I manage a respectable 17mpg which moves right up to 30+ when crusing at 70mpg.... the R32 manages something like 22 at most.

I keep coming back to the sound though.... and the fact that with DSG it's a very very nice car to drive around town. Relaxing and seriously quick.... if a little disconnected.

I remember a few years back when I was buying my Type R... I saw the Scirocco concept and thought... I'm having that.... give it two years and I'll have it! Well 2 years is up and the Scirroco is out.... disappointed at the engine availability but already there is information on the R20T coming out.

So what do I do? Well I'm waiting on my local VW to find a demonstrator. The real killer for me is the suspension/handling. If it's anywhere near as crap as the R32 it's a no go.... if however the adaptive suspension is quite good in SPORT mode I'll be all over it. Remap 2.0T is quite decent and although I'll miss the savagery of my Type R I'll quite welcome a comfort button for when I want to do a bit of cruising :)

The little bastard in the back of my head is saying NO NO NO..... because as much as the 2.0T lump is technically very good it's also technically quite boring... at least compared to decent NA motors. I'm also only 23 so choosing a car for a comfort button is quite ridiculous... though my girlfriend would disagree.

Or do I just buy a heap of shit for a year and wait for the R20T....I wonder how pissed I will be when they bring that out if I'm driving a boring old GT.

wait for the R20T! You'll probably end up keeping it for longer than a GT going by what youve said in the thread. I driven a type-R and its quick and all I reckon the GT might not be enough justification to change imo. The R20 will definately be worth the change though with a DSG box it'll be amazing!

i cant see how a type r can beat mapped gti's really, as my scirocco has beaten a few including the integra's, and strangely i was quicker up the strip than most of the gti's ect with more power at the weekend, i guess at the end of the day its the driver and how hard your wanting to push your car, most people like driving fast, but dont like thrashing there cars :shrug:
