Thats easy i paid cash no HP but i did get 9% off off the price plus £2000 scrapage so my 170 TDI with all my extras cost just over £19,000

I'll never tell! But I will say that it's nearly £100 a month less than my TT was (non met paint, leather, bigger alloys - no toys).

140bhp for me, I couldn't bring myself to pay £1,000 for 30bhp. If bigger numbers make you feel better about yourself then great, I've driven the 170, it certainly has more grunt but if you want grunt, go for the TSI.

Ive also ordered the 140 then thought mabye i should change i already have the 140 in my golf and pleased with it. Just thought mabye a bit extra power would be nice. What eventually changed my mind was the 4 - 6 week delay it would put on my car. that and that £905 extra for 30bhp is a bit much

Are there any mechanical differences between the 140 and the 170 other than a different ECU map?
On the older 1.9PD diesel engines there were (on the Ibiza seat range anyways) a 130BHP (FR) version and a 160BHP (Cupra) version. The difference here was not just a map. On the 160 you got a different Garrett turbo (with more lag) a Seat Sport FMIC (Rather than a SMIC on the FR) and larger air intake. the 130's could easily map to 160 even onto 180BHP and the 160's would map to 200BHP (and over but the turbo was at risk).
So if you're looking to do further modifications see what extras if any the 170 has over the 140. If there are non IMO I’d get the 140 and a nice remap for less than 1k.

Bigger blower and intercooler from memory, think it's got different injectors too.

I'd go the 170 then for future modding potential

2 things. 1) in relation on topic, a few people have said they didn't notice much difference between the 140 & the 170, but I think some of this comes down to getting used to the power. My wife had a 140 golf gt diesel as a company car, then after a year we test drove the 170 version for 5 days, and I think there was a real difference across all the gears, although 1st could have done with a bit of a longer range.
2). with regards the quote above, with extra's added, discount wangled, my total otr price was £20970. I paid £6200 deposit & will then pay £220.10 over 42 months on the personal contract plan.

Where is the other £5525.80 coming from? Is that the final payment or had the car back jobbie?
