I have 1 more question, when blower come and answer.
Is this the clutches, that VW put into our car?

Are they made by Luk ?
Also is this revised version? Are they better then VW ones?

I have joined this forum, as like many others, am keen to allay some concerns before shelling out...
Am looking at buying a 2013 1.4 tsi S CAXA engine Golf convertible (purposefully after 2013 engine changes afaik).
From what I gather most of the issues have been ironed out by 2013 (and the chassis, for a convertible and general set up is fab imo) .
Forum member "Blower" has stated some useful info regarding this exact engine and I have spoken to a couple of VW service centres. They did state that the timing chain can be jumped (by impact to vehicle) or just through bad servicing intervals (?), frankly odd comments for a modern engine IMO (am used to old Honda's) Equally I have been running a 2005 1.6 FSI Golf with no engine issues for 2 years but it needs replacing for various reasons,
"Blower" stated:
//
The 122ps (CAXA) does not suffer from the same piston failure issue. The main differences are no supercharger, smaller turbo, a smaller and water cooled intercooler and a less aggressive tune. The smaller intercooler volume and small turbo does make up a bit for the lack of a supercharger - it does help reduce turbo lag and it's pretty responsive at the lower end.
The block is the same, the head is almost the same (exhaust springs are the only real diff).
Failures in this engine are few, only the timing chain failure is of note - but this is a failure that can happen to the 160ps and any TSI engine.
Regardless, It's rare for a chain to fail and nearly all chain failures stem from the car being left in gear, and rolling back slightly when parked and the engine is off.
If you have a manual gearbox, never leave it in gear on a TSI/TFSI/FSI engine - in particular on a 1.2/1.4 TSI.
The 122ps is a reliable engine, more reliable then the 2.0 TSI i would say.
//
And that sounds like good news!
So my question is, with all due respect, are Blower's comments based on VW experience or forum round ups? Obviously I do not what their BG is so apologies if the question comes across as suspicious! It's not meant to be.
I had my heart set on a new-ish Golf convertible to take me and my daughter down to Nan's on the coast and all this dodgy engine talk has thrown me!!!

I also have the dreaded low compression in one cylinder problem in my 1.4tsi twin-charger (CAVD) which the dealer has diagnosed as a piston/ring fault. I can see there's a lot of very knowledgeable people on this forum that describe the probable cause (cracked Mahle piston ring lands). Is there anything official from either VW or Mahle (or accredited 3rd party) describing the cause of the failure? I have submitted a complaint to VW as my engine has only covered 20,000 miles. It would help to be armed with material that I could reference in my arguments although I know this will be an uphill battle.
Thanks

Nearly all chain tensioner/chain failure issues on a 1.4 TSI stem from manual gear cars being left in gear when parked.
Is there any cure for this with the timing chain wanting to gear over, if the engine rotates backwards
?

With the plastic engine cover cover off, I've looked on the left hand side of the block (just under one of the hoses running on the left hand side).
Below a VW logo there is some embossed writing saying SNL (or 1) Slovakia, followed by a line beginning 03C (the part code prefix for this engine), and two more lines.
Then below that there are 11 numbers followed by 'CE' stamped into the block in a "dot matrix" kind of way. The first six are 071112.
There's also a circular disc stamped on with the numbers 42 and 12 in each half.
Would it be a fair assumption that my engine was either built on 7/11/2012, or around the 42'nd week of 2012 (which would be ~15/10/2012) ?
If so I imagine I would be pretty safe in thinking it's the updated stronger engine !
I was wondering if someone else with this engine could see what numbers are stamped on theirs to see if this is consistent ?
Can anyone confirm if any kind of updated timing chain and/or updated pistons was introduced in January 2012
?
Is there an easy way to see when the engine was made
?
