Is your Roc new within the last 4 to 8 weeks?
If so, this might be the breakthrough we have all been looking for.....

I am assuming that you are asking me here......
I'm sure I'd seen somewhere on this forum that the dealer who supplied my car was doing this for those who asked.
I insisted on the lights being off - it's not a legal requirement - and (just in case) made sure they had a copy of the instructions from the following thread:
http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... hts#p20351
No lights on at the front or rear when driving or stationary. Just as God intended......
Ooh, forgot to mention.......
My Roc was ordered at the end of February, and delivered in June.
See right for spec........

i had a similar discussion with one of the master techs in a local dealer, seemingly its legislation now RE running lights, i know it was switchable offable in early models. They also mentioned that it would soon an MOT failure if you car is off a certain age and the daytime running lights arent activated, obviously not a problem for us for another few years yet

It isn't a legal requiremnt now as far as I'm aware and I can't beleive it would ever be an MOT failure for a car built before it became a legal requirement.
Sounds like a fob story to me?

Well if you were successful by that method then you are the only person on this forum who has found those instructions to work so far.
That method doesn't work on UK models though I did read someone's suggestion that it works on LHD's.
It was the indicator method, hold down to the left pull back, turn on the ignition for 3 seconds then off. Done. It did take me a couple of goes.
After you did this, do the sidelights still come on when lights are set to auto?
Yes.

Tried the indicator method with mine a couple of times, doesn't work for me.
Tried it a couple of months ago and again in the last couple of days.

Picked my car up yesterday
When the guy was showing me around it he said the lights are on all the time 'cos it will be a requirement in 2011 but they can be turned off
I said do it !
So he did
The indicator method mentioned in the manual worked fine for me
for info It's a 2010 model with normal Halogen headlights (automatic)

Same for me. 2010 model TDI 140; no xenons. No longer doing Volvo impressions

Sounds like the new 2010 models have activated the indicator method for switching DRL's off

HA! Ahem.
Great post QR - Quite literally a 3 second job and now my lights function in the way they should.
0 = off!
Auto = auto
Sidelights and headlights do just that.
Perfect!

Which is absolutely barmy!
Virtually all 2008/9 models, which will be sold when there is no legislation in the UK, need to have the lights turned off via VAGCOM. Providing you can find a dealer willing/able to do it....
2010 models, which could well be sold when it IS a legal requirement, can be switched off by the owner.
WTF!!

100% agree with sideshow bob, completely nuts but I'm chuffed that there should be no problem turning mine off when it arrives

Mine is a 2010 TDI. UK GT Spec.... just had 3 attempts at putting indicator stork down and head beams on.. turning ignition on for 3 seconds and them off..... made no difference, still have DLR ON.

Just read a US article about DRL's which makes a few good points. I rather liked this one included in the section on DRL Pro's
3. Some of the cars bought by the worst drivers come with DRLs, i.e. Saturns and Volvos. Thus the presence of a DRL equipped vehicle is a warning to other drivers to be careful.
The rest of the article can be found here

2010 GT TDI - turned DRL off at first attempt using indicator stork method. Pull back the indicator stork and hold down before putting the key in the ignition and turning ignition on. After 3 seconds got a chime noise form the dash and turned ignition off. Key out then back in ignition again and started car - no DRLs.

But then you do drive a fish around the countryside
Quote "My previous car (a Mazda 3) the headlights where pointed so low it made no difference anyway (carp for driving on country roads!)."
Now don't go searching my posts for typo's, you'll find plenty

P.S. Apologies for getting off topic
