If you have the original part numbers fitted and you have the money then there is certainly nothing negative about getting it done. It will certainly save you hassle in the future if it were to fail. The superceded part numbers are of much higher quality.
I've routinely changed a lot of Ford 1.8tdci bottom timing belts that have done half the recommended mileage - most of them looked like they had seen better days

Had no history of it been look at and I am a big worrier so it was worth it for the stress!

Cant really blame you considering the cost of a new engine for these
When i got my 122 done it was about b****cksed, only had 50,000 on the clock
Started with a slight rattle on start up. Worst thing is that my VW dealer said it was virtually unheard of, but plenty of horror stories online

Yep just did not need that stress! Cars is meant to be a bit of an extravagance, not a cause of sleepless nights!

The tensioner and indeed the chain are robust as hell. Its kinda the whole point to having the chain and not a belt which are usually recommended to change at 60,000 miles, so its kinda nuts to assume you should be throwing £350+ at your local vw garage for 'peace of mind'.
Your car is not going to go from purring like a kitty one minute to 'holy shit the engine just blew up!' the next. There will be signs and sounds preceeding things going downhill. If you have a doubt i advise getting a second opinion from a more experienced friend before handing over your wallet and bending over.
If you do a long drive like during vacation, this problem can occur during driving before you notice anything.
In the afternoon i started the car and all sound normal and during a tank stop a few hours later i noticed a weird noise. But because it was a rental car i jus't drove on. And 30 min later the whole engine was destroyed and oil out of the engine on the highway. So i doesnt always happens that slow.
