In Romania the rear view camera is available to order.
I ordered my Scirocco about 3 weeks ago with this rear view camera that works with RCD510 or navigation.

unfortunately neguso its not yet on the options list in the uk. if people want it they need to do some head scratching & retrofit it

I had a play with a Nissan NV200 van/7-seater last week and one option was the camera. Main advantage I could park right against my garden wall which the Roc goes red at 12-18"s also good for watching dogs/kids in my opinion that may not get picked up by sensors.......

Can't find an isolated control unit.
However the item is listed as "camera for vehicles with park distance control" thus searching by part family for park distance control throws up 1K0 919 475 K Z07 "control unit for parking aid" £105.69. This part is noted as part of option PR7X7 "Park distance control rear with rear view camera".

Trying a similar search for MK6 golf throws up different part no's but a similar situation where the control unit appears to be linked to PDC. However other forums have suggested the current camera has the RNS/RCD510 control unit build it and does not need a separate control unit as the tiguan camera does.

The rear hatch would need rear engineering cos there's metal work for the central locking in the way and the wiper motor. Its not like the Golf where provision was made in the design for the camera to go in behind the VW badge. So they've opted for the other way they fit the camera on models in the VW range.

Camera unit is the black item above the space between "l Z" on the plate in the photo

As i see it's in the midle so it cant be inside the licence plate's light (like tiguan). So? Just make a hole in the bumper?

The mk5 Golf does not need a separate control unit, the RNS510 does it all for you, all you needed to do on the golf is get power to the camera, a cable to the reverse light, and a video cable to the RNS,, well when i say all you have to do its not quite that easy LOL, proper connectors are better if possible, especially for the video cable as its quite unique.

So dont forget on that parts list there will need to be cabling added, i had the reverse camera on my edition 30 and its not a 10 minute job, and there is lots of wiring need and a loom to be built, plus programming with VCDS, fitting the camera will be the easy bit, the cabling in the bit**

No, the camera support bracket is only itemised with the pre cut rear bumper as that's the only way VW factory fit it. You can always retrofit by making the cuts yourself. The bracket IHMO will somehow hold the camera in place above the number plate and stop the bumper causing camera shake.

I was toying with the idea when I bought the camera and controller off ebay - im now going to put it into the wifes tiguan instead, just waiting for the wiring harness from kufatec and the tiguans camera holder which just replaces the section where you open the boot.

Im going to do it on teh scirocco too, but will use the kufatec IMA interface with a generic small camera that goes in with the licence plate lights. You can just use the OEM camera but it will lack the parking direction lines (IMO it needs teh controller box for this).

The bumper for the camera already has the section cut and ready for teh camera, by just cutting a hole in the bumper it still wont make teh camera sit properly. you'll understand when you hold teh camera itself in your hand.
