VAT will change in the new year, but I just received a letter from my local dealership advising me to buy new now to beat the sept 1st price increase (didn't say how much the increase was), but assuming it is 3%, then in 2010, a VW is going to be 5.5% dearer than now when VAT is back up.

I managed to get my order in on the last day before I would have had to paid the increase so was happy :D

To be fair the salesman was very informative and made me wary of this, although it did speed up my decision!

For those expecting there cars to arrive towards the end of this year, start of next check with your dealers what will happen if the car arrives after the V.A.T rate goes back up!

V.A.T is charged on receipt of good, therefore if your car arrives after the V.A.T goes up then in theory the dealer should charge you the higher rate of V.A.T and your car will be more expensive than the original invoice you signed into. My invoice went down as the V.A.T came down in between placing my order and taking delivery saving £500. I presume the same rule applies when the rate goes up? Worth checking.
