Shell V-Power ONLY! I agree with the above, I wouldn't buy an R and not give it the right fuel.

Yes but knock sensors are reactive and therefore react to the symptoms of knocking i.e. they're only able to retard the timing once symptoms have been detected. And knock symptoms will only be present once lower grade fuel has already been injected into the cylinder and burned.
