  • 3810 fixed this.
  • I'm now running V10 (2014 if I recall correctly) maps with my 3810, so pretty recent, can probably go higher but it's all I could find at the time, not worth looking for the amount that I actually use it, Google Maps/Navigation on my windscreen mounted and bluetoothed phone is far superior :P
  • As with all technology, up to date software requires up to date hardware to run efficiently, as said above, check your hardware version (physically pull the unit out, doesn't take long) because that will determine what version of software you can run really. I'm only saying pull it out because my unit actually says it's hardware version H in the menus, but I know 100% that it's the old version B.
Awesome! Thank you for confirming that. Think 3810 sounds like the plan then, will pull out unit first though to check hardware version. Did you use the customised firmware or not?

I'd still do the 3810 update regardless of what version you have, it is guaranteed to work on all versions with no problems, and then you can always upgrade to 58XX in the future if you're not satisfied and your hardware version permits it. As I said before, do the upgrades in "stages" to reduce the risk of bricking it.

I used genuine firmware as far as I know, there is a popular guide on the Golf MK5 forums here which is what I used: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index ... ic=23779.0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Despite it saying it leaves the maps and HDD intact, it wiped both of mine so I'd be prepared for that (and have new maps ready to install) if possible. :)

The Editor of that firmware (some geezer called Josi), adapted it to work with all units by rewriting bits of the code. all you have to do is find the correct firmware
And that's the problem really. Downloading and installing something which someone random somewhere has modified to make more better is not often the best way forwards. If you end up with a brick, I doubt very much Josi will send you a replacement unit, hence my guarded warning earlier.
I hear you.
My comment above was info I had gathered from my own experience. When I needed to upgrade my firmware, I researched the topic in its entirety, and made sure I knew what I was plunging into, hence my comments. I wouldnt want anyone to end up with a brick; and neither does the random guy named Josi

FYI - I went to 3810 first as well. Satisfied ALL my needs, and I didnt really need to go higher

Hi all,

I was looking at maybe updating the firmware on the RNS315 in my MY13 car. Is there are changelog or list of new changes in the latest RNS315 versions? I'm on 0407 but I know there's a 0410, maybe even newer. Not sure what they add though and it's harder than finding a unicorn to get any info anywhere online :(

Googling some German forums and with my pigeon German I've seen mention of version 0508, but no idea what it adds/changes. Why do they make this so difficult to look into...
