I bought my car, a 2009 2.0tsi from VW Approved Used two months ago and have the AA warranty, similar to what a few folks on here have i assume! Thanks.
Update....!
Was rather convoluted so bear with me....!
Basically, ended up having an argument with the vw dealer/garage, VW UK, the warranty company and the dealer I bought it from!
Main dealer gave me 5% discount on parts (goodwill) - didn't buy car from them - wasn't their problem
VW Uk leant on them and got me another 5% on the parts (goodwill) - because I didn't buy the car from a VW dealer, it wasn't their problem.
I did spin them my tale of woe about my golf killing its engine the month before, which prompted the purchase of the roc. Kinda hoped this would help my argument (Mk5 TDI, 08 plate, full VAG service history, 75k on the clock, bought from vw main dealer. It threw a rod and punched hole in cylinder block - 7k for new engine, the quote was from the dealer where the Roc was now in bits on the ramp). That argument didn't help at all....!
Warranty co would only cover for the cost of the parts that they could source, obv not genuine VW parts from the amount they quoted and only cover labour up to 65 quid(what halfords charge, which is where the roc would've ended up having the work done thru the warranty co) not the 105 plus vat that a VW main dealer charges....
Total cost at VW garage was just over 1500....warranty co offered me just over 500
Had row with the dealer I bought it from and they then gave me another 500 goodwill gesture
In total, to have it all sorted cost me around 500, but I did get whole new clutch assembly.
Upshot is, if you bought car thru VW dealer and the dealer won't cover it, speak to VW uk, you WILL be able to get them to cover it, cos you should have a 1 yr warranty if it was an approved VW second hand sale.
If bought via an independent, and its a third party warranty, you could end up with a large bill....! As soon as warrant companies hear the word clutch they will deem it wear and tear, even tho we all know it isnt
Onto the next tale of woe now tho....throttle body housing just been replaced (indie garage this time, cos refusing to pay VW prices any more, they are VW specialists tho) £504 all in.....warranty company is paying 480 of that tho..... Phew!
I'll have a new car before the warranty runs out at this rate!
My lil Fat Arsed Roc is running beautifully now tho!
