I picked the car up today, so no chance of bright sunlight until next year!
It is a very similar colour to my A3 that this replaces, which I think was lava grey, I couldn't park them next to each other otherwise I would have taken a picture. It does change quite a bit depending on the light and does look lighter the brighter the light gets but there is a depth to the finish that is really good in the flesh/tin that photographs don't really capture, as you would expect with a metallic finish. The worst representation of the colour is the one on the Volkswagen website, when I saw that I thought what have I done, it was not there when I ordered the car but I guess it puts a lot of people off. I'll get a few peoples opinions in the next few days and let you know what they say.

Why don't you come to Greece for a journey? We have bright sunlight almost every day. So, you will see it under sunlight, and I will have a chance to see how this really rare colour seems...

Saw one yesterday in Sumatra at the dealer which supplied my car - it looks really good even with truffle! The colour really suits the car, i'd recommend it having seen it in the flesh.

Great pic and a brave choice without having seen it first. Got to say I am a fan of the darker side and well happy with my deep black pearl but the sumatra does look good. I would like to see the two parked next to each other to compare properly.
I have got to say though that the pewter looks like the colour of a polished concrete floor in a warehouse!!!

Black would have been a safe choice when I ordered the car, as I always prefer dark colours. What stopped me from going for black was the description of black interior black headlining black trim black windows and then black bodywork without seeing it sounded a bit much for me. Still not seen one in the flesh but all the pictures it looks great and I would have been very happy with a black one.
I still have not seen another one of any colour, ouside the dealership (light blue and silver) let alone managed to park next to one for a photo op.

Exactly my reasons from changing from black to white originally...
Square eyes - many thanks for your pics - they really made my mind up swapping from white to sumatra - appreciated fella - think it looks class

Have to agree, esp here in the UK when a sunny day is a rarity.
