Scirocco Central

Has anyone bought this that had a MK5 Gti before, the stock system in the Golf was awful and i had to spend a fair bit of money to correct that. is the stock setup in the Scirocco a lot better? I'm looking to order the sat nav option with Dynaudio.

Cheers David, I cranked the EQ's like you said and the sound improved loads. The sounds when I play a CD is still much better than through my iPod but it's miles better so driving the last day has been much more fun with great sound from the speakers.

Good to hear! yeah, it's great sounding isn't it. The problem if you leave the EQs straight up the middle is it's extremely scooped in the upper mids, so you can't hear guitars and vocals (anything that occupies those frequencies), it just sounds muffled and it's instantly lost to road noise. Once you dial it in suddenly the dynaudio has great clarity, presence and punch. I think it sounds really good personally.

A store bought CD will sound better than the iPod, i'm not sure because i don't own an iPod, but i imagine it's more compressed (has less dynamics) like an MP3. It's usually quite easy to hear the difference between a CD and an MP3.

It all depends on the ripping quality and the compression ratio.
With a good rip and large sample sizes you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
Believe me, for years I argued that a compressed audio file can never compete against an uncompressed one if you use a good enough sound system that can accentuate the difference.
But I was proven wrong and in time, converted my audiophilic religion and my music db

I see, i'm still a bit of a ludite when it comes to different media, i still don't own an iPod yet, puely because i can't be arsed to convert everything, seems like a ton of work.

I think it's a question of diminishing returns as well when it comes to reproduced sound quality, for me anyway, once it's sounding pretty darn good that's good enough for me. Probably why i haven't changed my 15 year old technics amp and CD player at home, they sound good to me so i keep them. I kind of inherited it (read nicked it) from my folks. The speakers ar 'Maudant Short Classic' in what look to be mahogany cabs. It's pretty ancient but sounds good and just pounds on year after year. I probably shouldn't say that, it'll probably let out a puff of smoke tomorrow .
