2.0TDI - had it a few days and been busy drinking most of the weekend, so I've only had the oppotunity to do 90 miles. I'm getting 49mpg normally, and 47 mpg with the aircon blasting. Lots of room for change once the car gets a few more miles on.

I had 367 on one tankful before the light came on today, so I think I could have comfortably got over 400 if I held my nerve!

Myself and a few others seem to get around a 10% difference between displayed and actual mpg.

I reset my trip 2 on the computer to Zero when I fill up from around 1/3 of a tank to full and then when I fill to full again, I check the recorded trip 2 reading and then reset it for the next fill.

I have only emptied my new Scirocco once, but here are my first readings.

Over 379 miles, trip 2 recorded 48.9mpg average.

The fill was 39.18 Litres = 8.63 Gallons.

379miles/8.63 Gallons = 43.9mpg actual

(48.9mpg/43.9mpg x 100) = trip 2 indicated mpg is +11% over actual.

So do VW deliberately calibrate their equipment to indicate mpg to be far better than it actually is?

If there was 1 or 2 % in it then I could assume that the computer works everything out in metric units, and then converts to mpg. The 1 or 2 % difference could be attributed to rounding errors in the conversion process, but not 11%.

I have double checked my highline computer settings, and I am definitely set to imperial mpg and not US mpg for the displayed readings.

So that is my first set of fill info - my mpg may improve as the car wears in but I still think the gap between indicated and actual mpg will remain.

Foaming in the tank could play a part if you chop and change your fuel provider, giving false full tank fills. Time will tell if any foaming in this instance has had an effect, I generally go to one of 2 different Shell garages, so I should be able to treat them as the same.

Hi, I havent got my rocco yet, but regarding the mis reading of fuel consumption on the highline, my A4 was exactly the same and I found out through a forum how to adjust it to read spot on. I have no idea if the Vagcom is similar on the rocco, but once you worked out the percentage difference, ie, if your highline is reading around ten percent optimistic, you went into adaption channel 3 and then selected module 17 which is instruments and there is a value there set at 100, if your reading ten percent high, you adjust this figure to 110. if you were reading ten percent low, you would put in 90. I think you could only adjust in 5 or 10 percent increments. Hope this helps, and maybe if someone who is good with vagcom could try it and let us know. I'm no expert, just a self taught tinkerer. Maybe if this works someone could put it on the Vagcom section on the roccopedia

Cant wait for my new car, Septembers so far away!

I must be doing something wrong..

600 miles on the clock, averaging 22.3MPG (using V-POWER)...mixture of gentle driving and a few short bursts for when my foot gets heavy by mistake..

I did the same as maisbitt and also got a bit of a mismatch. Over the 373 miles I did after a fill it claimed I was averaging 35.1mpg. Filled up today and got 51.68 litres (11.38 gallons) in. That works out to 32.8mpg. So mine is reading 7% over what I'm actually getting.

No wonder VWs look so good on paper (and on the onboard computer) for fuel economy. Those figures are pure fantasy. The speed is also about 6% out. If your speedo says you're doing 80mph, you're actually doing about 75mph.

Are all the car manufacturers doing this, or are VAG the ones being so blatant about it? 11% out on the fuel economy isn't a slight oversight or rounding errors in metric to imperial conversion, it's a downright lie.

When I sell the car i'm going to get the vagcom adjustment that alanstead mentions, to go 30% out - that fantasy 70mpg reading will be such a selling point!

As far as I know all cars track slightly above the actual speed. Some form of regulation, and I believe there are min and max %s for it too.

Check the speedo reading with a satnav my last car was abour 5mph out at 70 I've not checked the Scirocco yet but I expect about the same.

The best I've seen on the computer was 55mpg on a 30 mile run to work which was a bit of motorway and town driving.

44mpg for my 50 mile commute to Leeds this morning. Steady 65-75 depending on traffic. DSG and 2.0TSI. I do have 11500 miles on the clock. MPG is improving all the time. My colleague with a 2.0TDI (140) Golf GT Sport gets 46mpg on his 50 mile commute as well. I am happy with that figure :)

Anyone else worked out their true readings for mpg vs computer indicated? If everyone is around 10% out then VW definitely have designed in the unrealistic readings.

I was demoing the 2.0TSI, I never managed to get over 30MPG, though this is probably due to the driver. :hyper:

Demos are always a little heavy on the throttle - you want to see what the performance capabilities are more than you want to see how good mpg you can get (generally), unless you had the car a few days on demo?

Four days in the end, let's just say I'm glad I've opted for the the TDI, I'm too much of a child for a TSI.

I'd need an oil well in the back garden for a 2.0TSI. I used to have a 170 2.0TDI PD Golf, the 140CR 2.0TDI Scirocco GT has really calmed my driving down, I only really put my foot down to close a gap and stop a cheeky sod jumping a long queue of traffic in the wrong lane to nip in at the front - my no1 hate on the road - wait your turn like everyone else!

Tested mine on its first full tank last week, I filled it then re-filled to the first click on the pump, very mixed driving, motorway and A/B roads with the air-con blasting full tilt during that hot week. For 448 miles the computer read 49.1mpg average, actual 45.1mpg.

I'am very pleased considering the engines not done 1000 miles yet... :D

I got an actual 44.2mpg vs an indicated 48.6mpg for my last tankfull. 2/3 of those 460 miles were done with the aircon maintaining 17C. Indicated to actual is still 10% over.

I currently have an indicated MPG of an average 51mpg for a total of 4000 miles of mixed driving. Pretty happy with the economy so far... and in the past few days I swear the engine has got more responsive. I guess it has loosened up now!
Usually I get about 560 miles out of a tankful. (not a scientific measurement - just based on resetting the trip counter between fill ups)

Over the first 4000 miles I've got a calculated average of 31.6mpg with an average error of -7% on the display each fill-up.
