Well I tried mine the other night, woked like a dream although I ballsed up the amount of acceleration and got too much spin!

I still managed 6.41 to 60mph though. :D

Right guys, does the Scirocco have launch control? If so, is this just the DSG or can it be performed with a manual?

I keep reading a lot of contradictory posts.

The DSG has launch control, but the manual doesn't.

QED.

Manual transmission definitely has launch control too - it's in the toe tips of your left foot. :)

Its also believed that you can only do it approx 3 times befor esomething goes in the gearbox. VW also can tell if you have done it so they won`t fix under warrenty as its been abused and not treated as the manual states it should.
Sorry but this has been tried.

Strictly speaking, the DSG Rocs do not have Launch CONTROL. Its more like Launch ENABLER.

The software in the DSG will not let You over-rev the engine or let You over-torque the drivetrain.
This part You can not alter.

The ESP software controlling the brakes will stop Your tires from spinning, by applying the brakes (crude but effective).
This part You can partially turn off, which is generally called Launch Control.

Actual launch control would control/reduce the power/gas to avoid wheelspin, keeping acceleration at max.

Launch control tis in the R supplemental manual called exactly that launch control... I'd be surprised if VW would document a feature only to apply an undocumented limit on usage before warranty invalidation. A documented feature must be fit for the documented purpose, can't see how three uses would be deemed excessive in a car built to last 200,000+ miles / 15 years.

My VW dealer confirms that the Scirocco 160 DSG7 definitely does not have launch control.

Whether this is a feature that could later be enabled by a service upgrade, or is a technical limitation imposed by the lighter construction of the dry clutch gearbox I don't know, but the dealer didn't consider it possible.

As far as I can tell all 6-speed (wet) DSG boxes support launch control and most (but not all) have it enabled, and no 7-speed (dry) DSG boxes support launch control.

I agree completely. Why put it in the manual and then enable it in some models and not others if its use damages the gearbox and they will not be willing to repair such damage under warranty?

This is in my manual too and I've tried it the other day... works a treat!

makes me laugh how the manual talks about launch control... then warns you about driving appropriately for the flow of traffic!

I have a 1.4 TSi DSG and it's in my manual too. However, the garage manage to lose my original manual (I bought the car second-hand with 1500 miles on the clock) so maybe my manual isn't the correct one for my model
I've not tried L/C yet but sounds like I need to for informative forum reasons! ;)

BAIKAR wrote:yeah i've read all that but my question is if no one ever told you about it how would you know its a feature on the car?

Its not in the manual and so is not a feature of the DSG.

Also its not a disable / enable option. All you are doing is selecting S for the performance ESP OFF so the traction doesn't kick in and then starting a punch up between the brakes and the gearbox.

Only thing it does after that is prevent high revs to save itself before you release the brake surely
It's in my Scirocco Manual on Page 140 and also listed in bold in the Index. Manual says "Print status 24.08.09". Not sure how to add attachments on here but if I can I will.
