From current press releases, yes, this is correct.

What do you think the reason for this is?

I have one other question for anyone that can help..

It may be stupid but please dont feel the need to have a dig..

Between the 122 and 160... is there much of a difference in how the car sounds..

Like does the 160 sound significantly more sporty in anyway??

I don't know.

Technologies change, maybe they just decided putting a 1.4 on steroids isn't as mechanically sensible as doing it the old fashioned way and increasing capacity.

I haven't seen the prices for the new roc, but as always, it could equally be down to margins. All speculation though. I don't think it's due to the earlier issues though, if that's what you were getting at.

On the sporty question: I haven't driven the 122, so this isn't an informed statement. But I wouldn't imagine they sound too different. However, the sound of a supercharger is pretty damn cool IMO, and the 122 doesn't have that...

Could be a 'de-riskment strategy' as Waspy has said or might be down the amount of work/investment they'd have to put into the 1.4 to obtain the power vs emissions otherwise obtained for the new 2.0 178hp version: the new engines are claimed to have significantly reduced emissions.

TBH, when I'm carrying a full car load of passengers, making the car feel less nimble, I somtimes feel a bit embarrassed by the supercharger/exhaust note, and which can seem over the top on even mild acceleration. The 160 can be a fun car but it's engine size does proclaim itself when pushed/under strain.

I had a 2009 1.4 160 which had no engine problems. I would either go for:
used - the newest/lowest mileage 1.4 160 you can find and buy a VW extended warranty when the original warranty expires
new - go for the new lower powered 2.0 car
I now have a 2.0 GT and love it.
