Disappointed. I would have to go to the R model to get the type of styling i would like... and even then. The price point for that just makes a high end golf or golf r seem so much more appealing. I had been holding out on changing to see what vw would come up with. Feel a bit let down.... Perhaps it time to look at the Audi's again....

Tbh I think the cost of the new scirocco r you would be much better off Buying a new golf r. Unless they make a serious cost reduction on the scirocco r

The rear is a little bit less friendly than before :)
That's probably the biggest difference conceptually.

I'm not a fan of the base model, but the more I look at the R, the more I'm liking it.

I don't mind the rear end. The 'sharp lip' isn't massively bad and the vents are a little strange, but I prefer that it looks more 'filled out' behind the rear wheels....so, I think they're growing on me, tbh. I really like the rear lights and I think those wheels are sweet, as well.

Sorry, I just don't get it. Some nice additionals e. g wheels and rear clusters. But otherwise, a beautiful fat behind turned into a letterbox. Like the new dash, fussy and undirected.

Homage to the original Scirocco or not, that additional instrument cluster has just moved the car downmarket.

On a positive note, the new line-up should help with the 1.4 160 residuals :-)

Well I won't be rushing out to change, the dials remind me of the dial pods from the escorts etc of the seventies(ie tacky), although the new front looks ok, the rear of the r just looks too square now, the bumper looks too heavy with the squaring at odds to the curved sides. Reminds me of that Peugeot design. Given just about all the rest is the same bar 15bhp it's not a significant step forward.

Well, I've always wondered how much of an inspiration this car was to the designers originally:
Bertone Jet 2 concept car (2004 Geneva Motor Show)

Even more so now after the changes. The rear crease line through the hatch is there and look at the exhaust - a similar theme to the vents in the R bumper.

Interesting: surely, too much of a coincidence not have been the inspiration for the Roc (or for a significant member of the VW design team not have been involved in the Bertone).

Maybe I'm reading too much into this. After all, it's a modern interpretation of the shooting brake car body style and the previous generations of the Scirocco were also iconic in their own right.
Here's an old video in which the head designer is talking about the current generation Scirocco:

Are not the headlight washers missing from the pictures? Have they gone? Also is that the NAV they are using, looks remarkably like the NAV that is currently in the vehicle and not the new one that is in the Golf.

The great enhancement is the boot lid actually has a button you can now use as apposed to the bloody button all the time.

If this is right we have seen the old R environmentally 'dirty' engine replaced by a new one with exactly the same CO2.hmmmnnn

Can't say I'm impressed with the exterior changes, looks too much like a Golf. I'll reserve judgement until I see some real-life footage.

I made some Photoshops that really help see the car differently.

First, i removed those horrible front fog lights, then the chrome turn lights.

Then i changed the color. Just to see how it would look.

Then i did the same thing on the R, but i also lowered the car.
