Scirocco Central

I'm 51 but cheating a bit - I've gone for an R-line bluemotion, however it looks the part, drives like a dream, is sooo comfortable but gives me the economy that most people dream about.

I've no regrets at having a Roc, wish I'd got one earlier. so many mates want to borrow it, I must have made a good choice.

Well I am past 70 and still enjoying my Roc. Just counted the number of cars owned during my driving life and it is only 12 - keep mine a long time! Learnt to drive in an Austin A30 and Ford Anglia 3 speed box. First car I owned was a Moggie minor.

I'm just coming up to 53 and my Scirocco should have been changed for something new last May, but there's absolutely nothing on the market I want to replace it with, so it's staying for a while - even been thinking I'll keep it till I shuffle off this mortal coil.

I also still have a Morris Minor - only had it for 27 years.

Nearly time for me to think about ordering my next scirocco. to arrive just before I have to start extending my driving licence for the first time, so ill just have to carry on growing old disgracefully, I have had a number of coupes over the years as I like them, and I really like the scirocco, so intend to get another, only thing that will be different is it will be a TSI 160.
I learnt to drive in my dads Rover 75 no power steering !!!!, my own first car was a very sedate 1955 Standard 8.

We'll, I'm still over 60 as stated last week ! All this talk about Morris minors and my own regret selling my 2cv I'm looking again at a classic as a 2nd car, possibly an old vw! My Roc is up for replacement this year, I want an auto and have looked at and driven a Renault Clio 200t and was very impressed, still looking at another scirocco though. Powerful petrol or diesel is the question.

Get the facelift Rocco r when it arives keep clear of diseasels spoils the look when you here the tractor farting away

Interesting that the older people seem to be talking about their car coming up for replacement or whatever implying they are leased. I guess the leased Rocs don't end up being heavily modified.

Been an interesting thread this one. I may consider an 'R' next time around, but not until the new, new model, thats assuming they will have an 'R' derivative.

Hopefully will soon get some news on the facelift version.

I think you are right to wait for a new, new model. I wouldn't buy any small - medium VAG car that wasn't on the MQB platform.

Got all those! Also got an 11 year old Boxster S which I'd like to upgrade but don't realistically use it enough.

Yup - I don't know how you 21 year olds afford it, insurance must be outrageous. I thought I was doing well getting a Roc by the time I was 40!

In all seriousness, it's quite interesting to see these views. I always thought of the sciroccos as a "grown man's" car. I'm more likely to be surprised seeing anyone <21 in one than seeing someone post 30s. Mainly 'cos of the price range and maintenance I guess. But there are always a few young 'uns who somehow have that kind of income though.

I got one in order to drive a more "grown up" car, plus I'm lucky to be able to afford. Wanted to leave the sporty vauxhalls/fords/renaults behind too

Im 21, and looking to pick mine up tomorrow, as my GTI is going today.

Insurance is only £580 a year.

Well im fortunate that I have no major bills to pay , I live at home still. I work full time though and never been given a hand outs towards cars. Unlike some people I know whos parents have gave them money for cars. One of my mates is driving a brand new range rover sport and he is 21. Payed for by his grandparents.

At 61 with full no claims mine is £170 and so anything under £600 for a 21 year old is excellent. Mine was a demonstrator when I bought it with 5k on the clock and many extras including corn silk leather, reversing sensors, cruise. It's 3 years old in March and has 30k on the clock and has cost the price of 1 service to date which If I remember was about £175. I reckon that's pretty cheap motoring and even with 210 and DSG I regularly get 35. I've loved cars all my life but just couldn't bring myself to get the R with the fuel consumption but fully understand why some do. I've probably been a constant embarrassment to my 27 year old son most of his life but he loves cars too and has a really nice golf mk6 convertible.
