Bluetooth contacts - sort by first name?

Myself and my wife both have iPhones so I can’t try anything else.
But the phones themselves both have the setting to sort by First name and it has always been set to that even before syncing to the car. I wonder if the guys that have a different menu don’t have iPhones?
Either way does that mean that these cars are not fully compatible with iPhones or does there need to be a firmware update?
