I did question the dealer about why they are not currently offered as an option on new models. He said it is because there is a supply problem, whatever that means. The important thing from my point of view is that they are guaranteed against failure for the full 3 years of the warranty.

With regards to spare parts for Xenons

The makers of the Xenons (Valeo) will eventually have the resellers kit available if anyone wants to go down that route.

There's currently a guy in Portugal selling RHD Xenons for the Scirocco - I bidded last week but a day before I asked him to remove my bids.

I trust him, spoken to him on MSN via webcam seen many more pics of the unit he has - however I've discovered theres a little more to it than just having all the parts - yes VAGCOM can easily be recoded but a VAG specialist has taken down my cars vehicle no's that are printed in the service log - they will check with the VW computers in Germany and see if I can get the units retro-fitted or need additional cabling - which he said will be a massive problem as most of the car will need to be re-wired - hence why retro fitting Xenons invalidates the VW electrical warranty.

So I this stage I've stopped sourcing Xenons until I have 100% confidence they can be retro-fitted.

The other problem with the eBay seller was that he was supplying converter cables (from Kufatec) that didn't support "auto-levelling" with the headlights - this is also something the VAG specialist was going to find out for me as to how they will work if I retro-fitted them.

Anyhoos FYI - Previous Auction Current Auction

Valeo European Products PDF - Scirocco products are on the last page.

DJW - could you do me a huge favor and upload a pic of your dash and specifically one of the light swith including the dimmer.

If I hadn't pulled out from the first auction I would have got the full kit for a bargain price of £800 inc P+P, if you price everything you need exc installation from a VW dealer it's over £1200!! I would have installed them myself - using a printed guide from erWin (saw the info last week) and get the VAG specialist to code them for me - job done, but like I said still trying to find out more about it as I don't want to end up spending £800 and find I can even use them.

PS sorry for switching the original topic, if any of the Admin's can move this post to its own topic that would be fine with me.

Cars with Xenons have a blank where the normal ones have a rotary dial thing to adjust the headlight height but AFAIK the unit is the same.

Quality is perfect, thanks Dave!

So from that I see that I would probably want to replace the manual leveler too as after all it wouldn't do anything if I had switched to Xenons.

For a while the £750 Xenons OEM parts seemed like a bargain but I think I'll give them a pass.

Probably order Xenons on the next motor fo sho!
