Booked the car in at the dealers for a couple of warranty issues, while on the phone to the dealer, i asked him if they could turn off the DRLs so the auto function works etc..... He said they couldn't as the car would not pass MOT if they did, and it was not possible to use the sidelights as DRLs..What do you reckon guys..?

2010 will pass without DRL's on. Have a dealer's MoT :D from November 2012.

No matter what they say, HQ.de instructs they are not to be switched off. That's why the dealers will not do the job of switching off.
VW consider it a safety feature and they were enabled during Type Approval ahead of anticipated legislation.

Cheers Chris, is it possible to use the sidelights as DRLs ??
i need a helpful person with vagcom!! anyone in sheffield / south yorkshire guys?

Complete rubbish. There is no requirement for normal passenger cars in the UK to have DRL's fitted unless they were designs type approved after February 2011. The Scirroco (non xenon) does not actually have DRL's as such - it simply has a 'hack' which keeps the headlights on - removing this hack has no legal or MOT implications.
