Surely an ESP incompatability problem can only occur when either the ESP or ABS software has been updated?

I've had very occassional ACC faults, a "bong" with flashing ACC legends as an indication, but so far the low batery warning is the only one I've heard of that doesn't tell you what it's warning you about. Are there more...?

Factory fit problem. Only 3 bongs, no dash indication, no fault codes.

 only a student of the "bong " language. lol

Now bonging whenever I open the door while it's parked in the garage I use it for runs of approx 20 miles regularly. I find this situation amazing

My 2 golfs have never done this
And we have to hunt around forum to find out what it is about. With no explanation from VW

The dealers states there are no faults present

I personally think the battery doesn't hold a full charge as it never reads above 12.3 volts
And sometimes only 12.1 volt

My battery is the same but a day (12 hours) of charging for the last few weekends with the battery the low current charger (2 amps) has recovered it from a level of 12.1 - 12.2 volts to 12.4 - 12.5 volts. The battery voltage level has been much better in recent weeks following this treatment. What I've found though is that the battery is charged but for perculiar reason, the voltage level doesn't stay high. Put the charger on and at 2 amps, its charged up within an hour and onto the next stage of cyclic charging the battery.

Take the battery off and charge in isolation and it holds full charge voltage with very little decay like a normal battery. Put back on the car and immediately the volts drop from 12.6volts to 12.2volts but there is no real discharge/current draw going on. :?

Only recently introduced into the electrics 3 years ago as a circuit. Long term factory transportation storage (for which it is really there for) was performed by using sun chargers connected via the 12v socket.

The bonging sound fault generates a fault code 00907 at 11.65 volts, the voltage level seen by the Central Electrics controller. The code is self-clearing, so by driving to the dealers, the engine charges the battery and it will clear the fault code by the time the Scirocco arrives at the dealers. And there is no history of it ever occurring when hook up the diagnostics.

Well there is some current being drawn but it wouldn't normally be sufficient to drain a battery - the alarm system and ultrasonic sensor and remote control sensor spring to mind. I would imagine that the various ECUs might need some power to retain memory settings. Although these should have negligable effect on the battery.

Perhaps a greater drain comes from the weird way that all the side lights and footwell lights (and god knows what else) stay on endlessly when you turn off the ignition (in auto lights mode at least). I often used to sit in my car at luch time with the radio on not realising that all this stuff was still on. No wonder I got messages telling my to turn off the radio or restart the engine, later to be accompanied by the "bongs"

I have a sun type charger which I could connect to the 12 volt outlet inside the car, but I thought it would not charge as the socket is only activated with the ignition on!

Although it does read approx 8 volts with the ignition off

Thanks RW1. An amazing knowledge base

A sun-charger isn't powerful enough to sort it out. Yes you are right, there is an ignition keyswitch controlled relay for the 12v sockets, so they are isolated. There's a reverse voltage leak some where for that 8 volts to happen.

My low current charger came with a battery connection fly-lead, So I just hook up the charger to a little 2 pin in-line plug in the engine bay at the back of the airfilter housing. Shut the bonnet and lock up the Scirocco for the day while it charges.

8 volts with the ignition off eh ! That explains why when I plug my phone charger in the LED on it lights up but won't charge the phone.

None of that switched on when I reconnected the battery at the time. That's why I'm puzzled at the batteries sudden volts drop on re-connection..... and the standby battery was connected at the time.

Battery Checking 7th January 2012

Removing the battery while maintaining the Scirocco's electrical & ecu settings. Spare back-up battery hooked upto the engine bay fuse box.

Battery removed a battery full of white crystals inside on the cell plates. Both ends are the same.
Battery Crystals 070112.JPG
Conducted a full battery set of tests as per the workshop manual. It passed with flying colours, wasn't even marginal. Unfortunately the battery passes VW's battery tests, so not a hope in hell of it being a warranty claim.

Hi guys, very late to this post but wondering if anyone managed to solve the problem my scirocco is beeping sporadically 3 times through out the day and middle of the night.

Would a new battery resolve the issue ? Any other suggestions from anyone
