Thank you Ozmosis for your reply there! Interesting observations. I think I heard that (at Monaco at least) the quickest GP2 cars lapped faster than the slowest F1 cars (Caterham). Not sure how true that is , but that's not right.

Epic shots Kev! Liking those a lot!

What settings/lense were you using?

That was a 100-400mm lens, mostly out at 300-400.
The flying ones are about 1/2000th F5.6 or so. ISO is probably about 600 (sunny day so pretty good).
The static one was about 1/400th ISO 100 F8 I think.

Lots in the bin to get the ones in focus :D
They're really hard to shoot in flight. You have to watch them for a while so see what they do. The first one was a perch for that dragonfly so it was a case of getting focus and waiting for him to come and land and firing a load off. The second one was hovering while it was laying eggs so not quite as tricky as it looks.

They do this to lay eggs
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So you have a chance to focus on the hovering position and shooting when they're there.

Thanks for the details, and I know how many pics I needed to take to get the F1 shots, so gettting these little beasties must have taken a fair few...

Very interesting about the hovering and laying eggs, I learned something new today (as you should!!).

That's a monster of a car. Was only about 3-4s off Heidfeld in an F1 car.

Hi all!

I thought I'd introduce myself here.
I am using a Nikon D3100 and have a history with photography and started all with a ZENIT TTL SLR. So basically started from the basics :)

Things turned round when I built my first drone and started shooting with a GoPro HERO 3 Black edition.

Now I am hoping to buddy up with someone and find a day when to get a shoot with a scirocco. Or it could be a meet or something. Considering the current season maybe a lovely white snowy field with my beautiful Rocco :D

I did try something like this with my previous car: http://vimeo.com/89151378" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Check out all the other videos from the same user if interested.

Impressive, I always forget to look at these other sections of the forum.

I would love to take more pictures of the moon etc. but we seem to be plagued by worsening light pollution, so it would seem a trip way out into the country is the only answer.

The moon is ok actually. You can usually get a good shot from your garden because the exposure is very short. Light pollution comes in to it on longer exposures that all end up with an orange glow!

Some great pictures ! My partner has the Canon 650D and the Nikon 1. We went for a drive over Saddleworth moor today to take some photos but it was too foggy, visibility was terrible !

The eclipse was pretty good here in Oxford.

A friend who works next door brought his telescope to work and I had a solar filter on my camera. Loads of people came to look at the gear and see the pictures we had. We gladly obliged and let them see it in safety on the live screen of the camera or with the special glasses we had.

I ended up with a nice series.

There was a little sunspot to the top left.

And then looked a bit like an eye on a big pacman looking to eat something in return :)

Today's (or more specifically last nights!) trip out was to Durdle Door at Lulworth Cove in Dorset.

I really wanted to get a good photo of the Milky Way and the location, weather and positioning was all spot on for Tuesday night. It's one of the longest days so sunset was late at 9.30ish and sunrise was only 7-8 hours later. That meant the darkest part of the night was 1-2am so not too long to wait after sunset.

I got there around 7pm and parked at Lulworth Cove. This was a mistake!! Although the walk along the cliffs looks nice it's incredibly steep to the top and down the other side and the path is very rocky and uneven. When I got to Durdle Door I was cream crackered! It was quite hot but windy and I was carrying 2 rucksacks of camera gear, warm clothing, food/water and a tripod!! If you're going there, go in the caravan park that's closer. Not so good for photos because the security guys can apparently get a bit iffy if you want to be there at night but if I go again I'll risk it there.

Anyway, I had an hour or so to check the location out and wait for sunset. This wasn't perfect because the sun was setting well north of due west so it was quite a long way round the cove and behind the cliffs but it was nice enough. Then I got down to the beach via the very steep steps and sat in some shelter waiting for 1am.

It's actually really interesting to see night time 'happen'. Normally you don't really notice. You might see it's getting towards dusk and then go off and do something and the next thing you know it's night. When you actually watch it happen you see the brightest stars popping out first and while it's still light in one direction it can be significantly darker in the other. Then gradually more stars show up. The plough looked really bright and then as it got fully dark you could make out the milky way as a white cloudy line. So I got cracking with my camera again :)

I finally called it a day (or night!) at 3am and took the 2hr trip back home again for some well earned sleep!
