Find this an interesting statement as the ships that take the Scirocco to UK, Germany (world distribution) and the Mediterranean Sea ports (Can't determine Central/Eastern Europe as that's by train I think.) are lessening in frequency over the last few months. Some ships are now on other shipping contracts.

Lead times typically on orders has come down in most cases with the exception of special models (R) compared with this time last year.

Also, at my local dealer last week, they were selling off new 2.0GT's with good option spec's at £3k discount typically of total price. Ten went inside 3 days.

Sounds like a specific dealer problem supplying the lease company

I received this 10 mins ago...

Dear Customer

As you may be aware from our previous emails, we are currently experiencing long delays with all of our VW orders placed from July onwards.

VW have informed us this week,  that all vehicles on order will now be built with the new Blue Motion Technology engines, hence the delay in build. They have now stopped production of the current engine and will be upgrading all of the engines to the above. Your vehicle (WHEN IT ARRIVES) will have the new more fuel efficient lower C02 engines, which means that you will get much better fuel economy combined with the same power. The engines have the stop start facility as standard, and for company car users the lower C02 emissions will result in lower car tax.

VW have informed us that they will not commence build on this upgraded engine until week 45 (Week commencing 8th of Nov), once VW start production of the new engine customers will be allocated a build week, from that date onwards, although there is a large back log. Realistically we don’t expect to see any of these vehicles with yourselves, until Jan/Feb next year.

Once a vehicle is allocated a build week, from the date of the build week the delivery date to customer is generally 4 weeks. Until a vehicle is allocated a build week, we cannot give customers an accurate lead time, as the orders are just effectively sitting in a queue.

I appreciate this may cause huge problems for some of you, and we apologise about the delay, however as I am sure you can appreciate this delay lies with VW and not ourselves, as the lead times given to yourselves when placing your order were the lead times offered from VW at the time. Due to the popularity of the deal this has resulting in VW taking far more orders for these models than anticipated.

If you currently have a vehicle leased through ourselves and this vehicle was ordered as a replacement / renewal for Nov / Dec, depending who your funder is we may be able to assist you to extend your vehicle at the same price. If you have a vehicle currently on lease through VWFS, if you contact them with your order no (which we can give to you), which proves that you have another vehicle on order with them that has been delayed they will let you extend at the same price until your vehicle comes in. Please call us if you have any queries regarding this.

We can also assist you with some short term lease pricing, or you can speak to one of our sales team who will look to seek an alternative vehicle for you.

I should imagine so... It's a supply / build problem...think there were some very competitive lease rates out there, hence the number of people quoting lease companies...add into the mix we are in effect trying to get updates from a middle man means lots of confused customers...can't believe they are saying here is what is in effect a 4 week shutdown waiting for engines!

Order confirmed 9 Aug 2010 (Week 32), just got confirmed build date week 44.

Apparently VW CS say my stealer didn't reach its quota so had to cancel the original order and re-order through another stealer. Hence I have two Commission numbers on the database. I shall be having words with said stealer.......

Ordered mine 23rd July, had a build date of week 38, and had an email from the lease company today saying they've received the car and it'll be delivered early next week

I placed my order on 23rd August and was originally told that the delivery should be sometime in December. I've been asking the dealer for a buid week for a while now and today he told me that he can't get any information out of VW yet. He's been told that any cars ordered now have lead times way into early next year, but he has no idea how much of a delay there is likely to be on mine.

He's offered to cancel the order without any cancellation charges should I wish, but to be honest I'm really looking forward to getting the Roc I've ordered so I don't want to go looking about for an alternative as yet. Hopefully I'll get a build date confirmed sometime soon - but I reckon it might be Jan/Feb before the car actually appears.

After numerous phone calls to the dealer, I have received a Build date of Week 39 (this week)
Told to ring back in a couple of weeks, (not he will ring me)
Very disapponted with dealer/salesman, poor service that I have not received from other manufacturers.
I have owned three Minis and even though the wait for the second two was six months, a week after placing the orders I was given a collection date.
Cannot believe a company the size of VW takes 7 weeks to tell the customer when he may get his car, shame the bloody thing looks so nice.
Hopefully not long now!!
Collect next Wednesday 20th Oct  :D

Wahey! I just wish this was the case for me. Same build week, dealer said status wasn't updated on 15th ("in production, build week 39"). I think the delivery might take a bit longer here, but I'm anxiously waiting for more info.

I ordered mine around 10th September, still had no news from my lease company confirming any updates from VW. Having read the above posts im guessing it wont be here before christmas :(. Has anyone else ordered around the same time as me had anything from VW yet?
Thanks

I ordered around 14th September and am currently awaiting a build date, was originally given a lead time of ten weeks which now looks very unlikely. Not particularly happy with the situation if VW can't deliver within a reasonable timescale then I will have no option other than to cancel the order.

I ordered mine august 24th and have not heard anything atall, I see a coincidence here thou we have ordered the same engine, that's probably the issue with them adding the stop start technology aswell.

I ordered mine from the lease company 20th July and they assured me it was ordered either the same day or following day, so Friday 22nd at the lastest (according to the lease company). Got this message from the lease company yesterday:

"Hi Adrian
The latest update we have from the dealer regarding your vehicle is that there still has not been a build week issued however the order has been accepted. The dealer has recently begun issuing us with estimates, as to when they believe the vehicle will arrive. They have informed us that we are looking at April with your vehicle.
I apologize at the large delay you have experienced, unfortunately this is due to delays at the Volkswagen factories, and there is little we are able to do to speed up the process.
Please let me know if you have any other queries.
Kind Regards, Georgina Burns
