Upgrading Sat NAV maps?

Hi

I know this has been discussed many times and I have spent hours researching this. I have discovered that my RNS510 is a B version with Firmware version 1120.
I also have Ver5 maps.
I really would like 7 digit postcodes....
So I think I need Version 7 or greater maps but what about the firmware?
Will an update to 1300 be enough or do I need to go up to 26xx or 27xx or higher.

Thanks in advance.

Don

1300 is the newest official (non-beta) for the B, and its fine for the version 7 map.
This is the current setup on my own B

Ah, you're on the 'mainland' :-)

Anyone else confirm that 7 digit postcodes work with firmware 1300 and maps version 7.x?

The postcode debacle is really annoying. I specifically asked the dealer during my test drive of my second hand GT if the nav supported 7 digit postcodes, he said "it’s really easy, you just put in the start of the postcode and the street". My stupid fault for not trying it as I don’t have 7 digit postcodes. If I'd tried it I would have offered to buy the car only if they updated the firmware and maps before delivery. Now I've paid for it they don’t want to know me. The sales guy directed me to the service counter when I asked about it.

Heads up when buying a second hand Scirocco. If you want full postcode entry (trust me, you do) make it a condition of the sale before payment. I updated to V8 maps on my own and still dont get full postcode entry. I'm not brave enough to attemp to update the firmware on my own because every "how to" I've read comes with a disclaimer saying to do it at your own risk as the unit might be bricked and rendered useless during the process.

Give my an address, then I'll try it on FW 1300, map 7.

Try a postcode of SW75NY. Should be on Queensgate Place in London.
Thanks
I updated to 1300 yesterday without any problems, and i have V8 and V7.2 maps so i will try V8 i suppose?

guys, you can also visit this site for information

http://vwnavi.com/forum.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

for those seeking to find version and map info, you can hold set-up on your RNS and look in the last column after the am/fm screen has displayed.

alternatively get a VCDS (Vag-Com) and code your RNS to display hidden codes

Guys,

Apparently there's a new firmware version for RNS510 (4020):

http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/forums/ ... 771-2.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It makes RNS 510 much quicker. Not all versions of the RNS support this update.

Just updated the map to 7960, will update the firmware to 4020 tomorrow and see what that does.

A camera version exists on some websites - they are edited by other people or you can obtain the software and edit the disc yourself.
