Nope, no folding mirror option here. There are others that don't have the folding mirror option but do have mirrors which dip when reversing though aren't there? Is it worth putting a poll together? Or getting everyone to cut and paste something like this to collate the results?

True - 2.0 GT DSG
Mirror Down in MFD? = YES (with VAG-COM)
Folding Mirrors? = NO
Xenons? = NO
Winter Pack? = NO
Mirror tilts when reversing? = NO

true, on a golf the mirror down function is part of the folding mirror option (called comfort pack), in essence would be good to try what you did on a car with folder mirrors to see if it works, maybe worth coming to the meet at gaydon

There's a little asterisk under that table of options that says some depend on spec chosen, or words to that effect.

You'll need to code the door control modules aswell

But there is no long coding helper for the door modules, so i havn't had a proper play around with the coding yet.

Quite correct Kev. It's a pity the disclaimer is so broad brush - if it was more specific maybe we wouldn't be having to try to work out all the permutations to see which cars should have the mirror down option and which don't.

Yep surely it's just as easy to say this option is only available with XYZ or is not if you fit whatever.

I've spoken at length to VW - initially they claimed that from the chassis no my car did not have the MD option. When I explored this further they claimed no Scirocco had the option so I pointed them to this forum and the handbook. Oh dear -clearly some Sciroccos do have it - oooo ahhhh.

I then had a call back to say following a discussion between the tech advisors and after viewing the forum I should take my car to a VW dealership and discuss it with them. I pointed out that people who had done this had received different explanations none of which proved to be accurate because this forum revealed Scirocco owners who could contradict the explanations. That is as far as I have got.

I now wonder whether in fact it is to do with the supply of parts and that some Sciroccos have been fitted with the more recent items intended for the Mk6 but possibly taken into use with the Roco as the old supply ran out and it was more sensible to use the part being made for the Mk6. Just a thought.

From the randomness of this function I think that would be my guess too.
Thanks anyway for asking for us ken.

Just to add to this long thread, I took delivery of my Scirocco yesterday and it doesn't have the mirror down. God knows what you need to order to get it!

2.0 GT MAN
Mirror Down in MFD? = YES (without VAG-COM)
Folding Mirrors? = YES
Parking Sensors? = YES
Xenons? = NO
Winter Pack? = NO
Mirror tilts when reversing? = NO

Did you put mirror on L setting... and then move the mirror while in reverse... then after going over 5mph it should go back up... just need to make sure ;)

That's a good point, I was just putting the shifter back in D and waiting for the mirror to go back up. Something for me to test later...

Ok, I put the mirror on L setting, reversed and the passenger mirror moved to the left very very slightly but did not tilt down at all. Weird! Maybe mine is just broke

Do as above and then adjust you mirror down to the desired position then the next time you reverse and the switch is in L it will magically drop to the setting you made

Put the mirror in L position... then put car in reverse... adjust your mirror to the position you want for parking... then when you drive off the mirror should go back to the original position  Basically you need to set which position it goes in to when reversing, even tho it is called mirror down

I noticed that the park assit doesn't go off till you get over 5mph, it's actually quite helpful

Yeah you have to set the "mirror down" position first time around. From then on it will automatically go back to this position when reverse is selected providing the mirror adjust dial is set to "L". This may sound overly complicated but actually it's a good idea as if there was a default "mirror down" position this would probably not suit most drivers, at least this setup once you get it working can be tailored to the driver.

So, I've had a fiddle and tried all of what people have described but still no luck :( I think I might try the "but I've got the Mirror Down option on my MFD..." approach with the dealer next.

Thanks all, yes it does work for me. I didn't realise that you needed to set the mirror down position initially

Funny how this is turning into the longest thread as well as DRLs, always the little things that annoy, I don't suppose anyone's car has hit the first service mileage (not sure if 10K like GTIs) and they dealer has done any upgrade works to rectify this (I know they say it isn't standard).

Strangley its the one function of the Golf I have but don't use as sometimes it does my head in, her indoors swears by it, even though it doesn't manage to prevent wheels coming in contact with kerbs.

Soooooo.....does anyone have a final answer on which option is required as a base for mirror down, does everyone who has this function working also have folding mirrors?

Can't offer a definitive answer re the necessary base spec, but I can say that I have got it working and I do NOT have folding mirrors.
