quick clean - well what else are you gonna do for 30min on the eurotunnel coming home? (ok apart from delete all the songs on the rns with an underscore that are actually blank files and annoying, like i did on the journey out. so sad.

What parts did you go for on the Bluetooth retro fit?

honestly couldn't tell you, selley, cos i don't know! peterg gave me the module and harness from his old gt as his new r came with bluetooth. think it was an old skoda module. works fine but we haven't managed to get the steering wheel button to pick up calls or the mfd to display the phone menu yet. weird cos it worked in his gt. so if any vagcom experts have any ideas on how to link bluetooth to the mfd can you give me a shout? cheers!

ok, so i know the r exhaust isn't that loud and you can't really hear the dsg pops and farts unless you have the window open, or you're near a wall but i still love it - the little thumps and bangs you get when you lift off the throttle, the boomf you get when the turbo's spooled and you flip the right paddle, the fact that it doesn't p*ss the neighbours off when you leave for work at 3am... i could go on. don't get me wrong, i do like a loud exhaust - that armytrix one sounds awesome for example - i just don't want one. thing is the backbox just looks cheap and nasty. and i'm bored of seeing it shining from under the diffuser in photos. looks weird, like the diffuser's too high - see the first shot on this page (above) for what i mean. for a while i've been thinking of just hiding it.
whilst at emp (
http://www.empperformance.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) last weekend i mentioned wanting to turn it black. dave grabbed a can of what to use then gave me a scotch pad thing to clean it with first, what a gent. ebay for the paint, sorted.
it arrived today so before i could chicken out i jacked him up and got busy. cleaned it, masked up around the diffuser, pipes and other bits and bobs with just normal masking tape, and used long pieces of cardboard simply laying over the top of the box to stop the heat shield being sprayed. then needed curing it at over 400 degrees so went for a long drive. no decent pictures yet as it went dark. from first impressions i think it's done the trick.
bit glossy in the bottom pic, was still wet. and yes, victor's jack is black and blue, duh!

How do you think that stuff would hold out on the exhaust tips? I was considering powder coating in gloss black, but that could be a short-term solution.

it's heat proof up to 1500 degrees and research tells me the exhaust system gets cooler the further back you go so it should be fine i think. if it can be used on manifolds and the engine block the tips should be way cooler...

Have you thought about getting some new taillights?

yep, i like the dectanes with the 'L' shaped red lights - still looking at whether they're simple plug-n-play or have issues.
next two small projects are wing mirror down-lighting leds (possibly blue to match footwells) and led puddle lights with blue lower section. both ordered, just got to wait a couple of weeks for delivery.
anyone got dectanes and are they error-free, with no extra wiring?
