Hi all,
I have had my Scirocco for a few months now and love it to bits.
Theres just a few things ive been trying to work out. Im probably being a bit dim and missing things in the manual.
1. I have the 2.0 TDI GT with the auto lights. - They are working fine but is there any way to know if the headlight dipped beam is on or just the running lights from inside the car. I cant see an indicator light in the dash and if the outside light is dim the only way i can think of at the moment to tell if the lights are on is to rotate the dashboard dimmer knob to see if it dims the dash then i know that the lights are on, surely there is an easier way?
2. I have the climatronic AC unit and have read the instructions but cant really see when you should use the 2 different auto settings, the only difference the maual referes to is a high blow speed and a low blow speed, is this the only difference and just up to driver preference on whether a high or low speed is best for them?
3. Is the AC button just a chiller unit and used when the cabin needs to be chilled or do you leave it on when the cabin is being heated as well?
4. Does everyone leave the air recirculation button on the automatic setting to detected noxious substances etc or just leave it off until needed manually?
Sorry if these questions are a bit dim, ive been used to trundling around in an N reg Micra until now with 2 dials so all these buttons are a bit new!!

Re: Lights
1. With the light switch set to "auto" all the lights are off, assuming they are not on as DRLs, or when they activated the dipped beams and the smaller running lights come on. There is not a case when the running lights are on by themselves unless you switch the headlight switch to sidelights by one click clockwise from auto. Unless you have Xenons I'm pretty sure you're headlights will be on all the time as DRLs and the auto switch is redundant.
2. It's exactly as you describe, depends on what speed fan you prefer.
3. With the AC button pressed, it just means that the compressor is activated and will be used when required to lower the cabin temperature. i leave it on all te time as it dries the air.
4. I just leave it on auto all the time

Re: Lights
Just to add to what Cuprabob has said ..
If you do have your headlights on all the time as DRLs then the only difference the Auto function makes is to turn the dash lights on when it gets darker.

Re: Lights
Sorry to kind of hijack this thread, but I'm also confused by this...
From what I've found:
Switch to 0: dipped beams on
Switch to Auto: dipped beams on
Switch to sidelights: only sidelights on
Switch to dipped beam: dipped beams on
What the hell's the point in that!??!??! Why did they even give me a switch? Am I supposed to drive everywhere with headlights on or switch to sidelights all the time? I thought DRL's would be something small, like sidelights. And if the legally mandated DRLs are going to be headlights anyway, then what's the point in fitting sidelights? Have I missed something? Is there another setting? (I tried the thing with the stalk. Didn't work on my late 2010 car)

Re: Lights
They just implemented DRLs on the cheap so as you say the auto function is pointless on your car. If you had spent some extra money and got Xenons then you would have seperate DRLs and be able to use the switch as intended :-)Dimbit wrote:Sorry to kind of hijack this thread, but I'm also confused by this...

Re: Lights
So I have to turn the switch to sidelights every time I get in, then back to auto every time I get out of the car. Awesome. And that's as well as that **** green light on the mirror! Will be having a word with the dealer about both... 2 ways to make a great car annoy you every day...

Re: Lights
You shouldn't have been so mean and bought the Xenons :-) I've also got the option in the MFD to switch the separate DRLs on and off.
You soon get used to the green light and you can switch the function off and on easily if it annoys you that much.

Re: Lights
Bought used, so couldn't spec xenons. Not that I would at that price
Little green light now has a neatly cut piece of black tape over it, so no more pressing that button every time I get in the car
