Dual Action Polisher decent model for £100?

Post by char »

Hi

I'm looking for a Polisher but dont want to spend more than £100 or so. Any recommendations? Is there anything to look out? From what I can tell a Dual action is the way forward but any particular makes better than others? What about running costs ie. replacement pads

Cheers

Happy with ....
Kestrel DAS6 Dual-Action Polisher at £72
3M Car Care Blue High Gloss Polishing Pad 150mm (backing attachment surface is 125mm) at £9
Lake Country 125mm Spot Pad Backing Plate for DA Polishers to suit the 3M Blue Polishing Pad at £9
(DAS6 back plate is too big for the 3M pads plus the Lake flexes a little which helps with body panel shapes.)

Total: £90 using discounts. (Normal total: £100)

Use Meguiar's Mirror Glaze #205 Ultra Finishing Polish for fine finish with Auto Finesse Rejuvenate Pre-Wax Cleanser to go a little harder on the surface. My cars don't need anything more heavy duty polish wise due to their surface condition.

Machine polisher / da help products too

Post by NT-Rocco »

Been looking into buying a new machine polisher as my old one is nackard.

Im just looking for a little info on the two types, and what i can get for around £50-60 mark and £100.

then just wondering what pads people recommened and do they make much difference,

Lastely what products would people recommened for polishing out swirls and hazing.
Also what looks like final sanding stages on the laqer.

All tips and help would be appreciated by me and whom ever else reads this:)

50-60? Not sure what you are looking at - don't know any machine at this pice that will do a good job.

I have a Flex XC3401 but it is personal preference on which machine you buy, 3m do a pro machine which is quite good too. I have just ordered up some 3M pads as the car needs doing again after the winter. It really depends on how bad your car is with swirl marks, I prefer 3M products but again it is personal preference.

If you want a guide or somewhere to start you are best taking a look at detailing world and the guides.

Oh and one comment that was made by 3M when I took the car up to HQ was VW paint is quite hard so will take more of an effort to get rid of the swirl marks.
