Visual Differences? (122PS v 160PS)
After buying the 1.4 160 i began to wonder if there are any visual differences between this and the 1.4 122. If not are there any internal differences? All I can find to say mine was a 160 is on the inside of the service schedule which says scirocco 1.4 118kw but as far as i can see this service book could belong to any car. Is there a sticker of some kind on the car which says its a 160?

Re: Visual Differences?
Hello Phil,
Take a look at this .... http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... t=+sticker" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The first photo shows the service book inside cover sticker (also on Boot Floor under the carpet)
Yours should state 118Kw and below it the engine code CAV.
If its a 122PS TSi, the it will state 90Kw and CAX.
Also on the sticker there should be a chassis number which starts with WVWzzz13znnnnnnnnnn. This should match the chassis number in the windscreen under the parked left hand wiper blade.

Re: Visual Differences?
Thanks for the reply. I have checked the codes etc and it would appear to confirm it is a TSI 160 as opposed to a 122. Just seems amazing that you can only tell by unearthing stickers in boots and matching codes on windscreen with a service book, just to confirm this fact. It would seem, as there's been no further replies, that there are indeed no visual differences between the 160 and 122 when parked side by side?

Re: Visual Differences?
On the TSI badge on the 160's tailgate, the letters "SI" are written in red. As seen on Gary_Monkey's image below:

The S (and possibly the I?) are not red on the 122 model.

VW have always been subtle with regard to exterior model codes. Let me put it another way. Even on their famous 'GTI' model they don't plaster 2 foot lettering along the side of the car to advertise which one your driving!
RW1 is correct, and to make things even more confusing, the current 160PS Scirocco does indeed have three red letters 'TSI' (unlike mine which is a 160PS but only has the 'SI' letters in red - pre MY2011 you see).
Hope you're suitably confused

Re: Visual Differences?
As being new to the brand I was wondering if there were differences as per my original post as I was a little concerned at the time. But you can certainly spot a 2.0 though as the number is brazenly shining brightly on its rear!!!

Hi, straight in with what might be a stupid question, what are the visible differences between the two models?

Re: Visual Differences? (122PS v 160PS)
Thanks for the thread amalgamation Admin, now I know what to look for.
Had a drive in a 2010 160PS today, the actual car I'm interested in, also a 2010 model, won't be at the dealer's until next week.
There is a strange price/mileage between the two cars, which made me think one may be a 122PS.

Re: Visual Differences? (122PS v 160PS)
The front brakes, both size of the disc and the caliper, are different. This difference is visually notable. The 118 kW 1.4 TSI has the same brakes as 2.0 TSI while the 90 kW version has smaller ones. Could not find a picture to illustrate the difference.

I drove one of each and noticed that the roof lining inside the 122 was white whereas the 160 had black roof lining. Not sure if this is the same on all of them as standard though?

Re: Visual Differences? (122PS v 160PS)
Nope. Mine's a 160 with a lighter roof lining. IIRC at the time when I bought mine (2009) the darker lining went with the leather option but not in the GTs where it was black in all cases.BunnyJen wrote:I drove one of each and noticed that the roof lining inside the 122 was white whereas the 160 had black roof lining.
