my dealer told me it was a wheel off job under warranty, sounds like they are cutting corners to increase their margins

yeah i thought only way really was to pop it from the inside as alloy damage is possible if trying to remove from outside.

Wheel Caps

Post by maq »

Hey all,

Not exactly tech, but a parts kinda question...

Has anyone ever had any problems with their stock VW logo wheel caps? I did my usual post wash 'inspection' a few days ago, and 3 of 4 seem to be going off.. The silver appears to have bubbled and gone a little white.

Figuring its probably a manufacturing issue, so will get them replaced at the next dealer visit, but just wondered if anyone else had seen it? At first I thought it was just paint! :D

Cheers
M.

Interesting thread,my car is now out of warranty, however on inspection all 4 caps have the white worm.
I wonder if its worth trying the dealers for a replacement if they are a common fault??
Obviously they cant say the fault has developed since January(when the warranty expired) !!

the OEM ones on the summer tyres seems ok, but those i bought from ebay for the winters are looking rought! Its like moisture had got behind the clear lacquer. About 5 pounds for a set of 4.

I didn't even think to search for this, being such a random thing.. Thanks to RW1 for hooking me up with the wheel white worm!

Will raise with the dealer at next service or before, if I pop across for any reason! Thanks again
