MOT day

Post by Kev »

Blimey I can't believe it's 3 years since I first picked up my Rising Blue :)

Dropped it off in Chester for its first MOT and it'll have a small service as well.

Yep, mine went in last week. I did get new alloy centre caps and the waste-gate rattle clip fitted before the end of the warranty.
No problem with the MOT though - hope yours flies thru too

New centre caps? Is that for the 'white worm' effect on them?

If I can get that done for free I'll fire them an email while they have it.

Yes Kev,second lot since I've had the car. Just make sure they don't prise them off with a screwdriver - I'm currently compiling a letter to the service manager................

Considering I hadn't really noticed it until Wigit told me about a year ago and I don't really want to risk them doing more damage getting them off maybe I'll leave it then.

Yeah, very disappointed. They've changed them before with no probs at service because they probably took the wheels off. This was just MOT and warranty work so some plank with a screwdriver has prized them off!
It's not bad damage just a couple of nicks on each wheel where the screwdriver was used. I know I'm fussy but that's not the point - F'in careless
Having avoided curbs for 3 years it's so annoying. Only noticed yesterday when I washed the car for the first time since. So pics and an angry letter are off to the stealer's.

MOT passed with flying colours. Still got loads of tread on the rear tyres, 3-4mm on the front so they should do me till Xmas.

At least 2 wheels of mine have that so called 'white worm' on them, I thought that was just normal wear and tear and did not even think it could be a claim item.

I am sure mine does have this wastegate rattle that has been spoken about, I was not really aware until others mentioned it, seems to start at 2,500 rpm then disappears shortly after. Again not sure whether I should get them to look at it.

At the very least get the wastegate clip fitted mate , makes a noticeable difference, and, if it's under warranty , wont cost you anything

Wigit: Had the alloy centre caps replaced twice now . First time at service . They must of had the wheels off then or took a lot more care because my wheels came back unmarked.
This time,MOT - screwdriver job! Letter and pics in the post to service manager . We'll see If I can get a brake fluid change or air con service out of them....

Woudn`t it be easier to take the car back in and show them what they did?

Agree a4gee ! Dealers a fair distance away though and I can put my point across far better in a letter than I can face to face (I tend to get quite wound up and start ranting)
So this is my first port of call. I'll wait for a response and then take the car back

Cheers mate, I will give them a call about the wastegate clip, I am half expecting a battle about it. I am certain they will say its not a fault and not covered under warranty.

Pleased to say mine flew through the MOT, did not expect any problems on account it is still less than 12K miles in 3 years. :eyepop:

I did mention the wastegate clip, I gave them the part number and they have acknowledged it, so many thanks to all that provided the information on that. Going back in just over a weeks time to get it fitted before my warranty expires.

Bit of a silly clueless question, but what is the wastegate clip? Had my first MOT last week and nothing was said about it, is it a major issue?

No worries, I was not really aware of it, but take a look a this:- http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... =wastegate" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It is the 'tinny' or resonating noise you get at about 2,500 rpm under acceleration, which then disappears as the revs rise from the wastegate on the turbo. I always thought it was a bit of a 'feature' but there is a clip which apparently suppresses the rattle quite substantially. There is a recognised VW part number which my dealer acknowledged. If yours is still in warranty I would get it sorted, its not a major issue - just a bit of annoyance, but it wont be doing the car any harm or impact performance.

Brilliant, cheers mate. I will give the dealer a ring and ask about it.

No worries mate, I am sure you have probably found it, but the part number in question is 06J 145 220 A. It is one of those items that the dealer wont just fix it as a matter of course, customer has to badger them to do it, which they should do under warranty.
