Re: DISPLAY QUERY
Yes, its a new modification introduced for MY2011.
Its purely a warning that the Scirocco is fitted with deadlocks. Just they have now made it a visual aid in the dash for MY2011 onwards.
SafeLock = Deadlock. Look up the "3.1 Controls & Equipment" hand book on how deadlocking works. There is a warning not to lock passengers in with the deadlocks engaged .... for obvious reasons.
Deadlock engaged by pressing once on the ignition key plipper. Red alarm LED in the driver's door panel will flash rapidly for about 2 seconds. Then it will slowly flash. Car is "Deadlocked".
Press the plipper twice when locking up (the second press being within 2 seconds of the first and before the rapid flashing of the LED stops), the LED will flash rapidly but then perminently extinguish. Car is locked but deadlocks are not engaged.
Opening is just a press on the plipper.
If when locking the Scirocco, the LED doesn't flash but is perminently on for about 30 seconds and then starts flashing slowly, then there is a fault with the central locking or the alarm system. (Had this at Chrismas and it was the alarm horn had gone faulty.)
The fault(s) should be visible with VCDS.

Check Deadlock Message
Hi,
Just picked my Scirocco on Saturday after parting with my beloved R32.
Just a quick question, when I switch off the ignition a message pops up in the MFD saying
" Check Deadlocks Owners Manual"
When I look in the manual it states it will advise on the status of the deadlock mechanism and refers to 2 messages, "Safe Lock" and "Safe Locking"
Is this normal and just a case of the text in the MFD being updated and the manual not up to date?

Re: Check Deadlock Message
I get it in mine too. Nothing to worry about as it's just a warning / reminder to lock the car safely. Find more info here.

Re: Check Deadlock Message
I think they've done this as on most cars you have to press lock on fob twice to deadlock it, whereas for some reason the scirocco only needs to be pressed once.
Re: Check Deadlock Message
I thought the norm was that one press was dead-locked, and two presses locked it and the took the deadlocks off...?

Re: Check Deadlock Message
This is the first car ive had where deadlocks are activated with one press. I had a Bora 8 years ago and that required 2 presses to activate deadlocks.

Re: Check Deadlock Message
I'm pretty sure my R32 also deadlocked with one press but they didn't feel the need to tell you every time :-)

Re: Check Deadlock Message
It may have been introdcued cos its the reverse in operation to what people expect to happen. Maybe some stats somewhere in insurance are showing something.

Re: Check Deadlock Message
Just press the key fob once, a second press will de-activate it. My Volvo V50 was just one press then after 20 seconds you would hear a quite loud 'clunk' as the deadlocks were activated, I miss that reasurring sound.

Deadlock see owners manual
Got my new Scirocco today :-) anyway when I take the key out of the ignition the MFD says Deadlocks see owners manual. I've had a quick look but can't find it in the manual. Anybody got any ideas??

Must be in there but the handbooks go thro' updates and revisions so it needs someone with the latest Handbook to tell you exactly where.VW wrote:Safelock = Deadlock
The message is purely to warn the driver that the vehicle has safelocks fitted. The driver can read about the locking
system on the vehicle in the Owners Handbook.
Please show the customer the ‘Central locking system’ section of their owners handbook explaining that Safelock is
the same as Deadlock.
The message is intended to ensure the Driver is aware of the Safelock (Deadlock) mechanism fitted on the vehicle.
Please refer to the owners handbook for further information.
Its usually indexed in the back of Booklet 3.1 as "Deadlocks".

Re: Check Deadlock Message
It is in the handbook under deadlock but the way it's written it not very clear that it comes up with that message as I had the same question when I got mine.
The message is perfectly normal

Re: Check Deadlock Message
The logic is that the message is prompting you to read the Handbook. Where you then "learn" how the locks work. They don't intend to amend the Handbook for the message in the dash.

Re: Check Deadlock Message
I know that now but my handbook kind of implies it should come up with the word "safe" which it did in a MK6 Golf that I drove. So when I seen this message I originally thought there was a fault in my deadlocks :-)
