Rear Parking Sensor

Post by bennyb »

So the Scirocco rear parking sensor is just a beeping sensor is it? No camera?
Is that true?

If it is the case then surely a post purchase parking sensor is cheaper to buy?

What about this?

Anyone ever used / fitted / opinion on?

Its a beeping noise and it also appears on the headunit as a physical display (not camera type view) you can add camera as an option if you wish, personally if you want parking sensors then you would be wise to add it as a factory option as the proper parts arent cheap.

You'll spend the difference in fuel running around getting it sorted and the same with Cruise Control. Far better off factory ordering, particularly CC given its hassles at the moment with a waiting queue at the dealers or the distance to find a fitter.

Thanks for the replies and the video

I am quite interested in this:
http://www.parkingdynamics.co.uk/Vehicl ... namics-PD1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have never had parking sensors before but as people have pointed out the scirocco has a low visibility rear view mirror and so I am interested in it as an option.

Your aware the unit only picks up metallic objects... people walking behind the car won't be picked up, neither will the plastic front/rear parts of a car. Bins, fibreglass garage doors, walls, concrete/brick walls/piers/posts won't be detected.

The 25cm constant tone will be once your 25cm away from the metal bits of a car which may be 10cm to 20cm behind any plastic trim.

Do NOT buy these sensors! I bought some for my old car and after a few months I kept getting false alarms! The company were not interested in the fault but wanted me to take to an auto electrician at my expense to find out the problem, then they said they would send out a replacement part but not refund the auto electrician fee!!!

BennyB: Don't forget to ask for a bit of discount on the sensors (shy bairns get nowt!), maybe 10%? There's a large profit margin in the extras for the dealerships.

Sure you don't want to change to a 170TDI while you're at it? Cheaper and easier in the longrun to get 170 now than possibly regret and remap later to get spanked by your insurance. My 170 costs me £12 a year more than my old 140, you'd probably be paying upwards of £120 a year on your insurance to remap. Yes, i've had both, and the 170 is so much better. Everyone always thinks that if only they'd spent a bit more they could've had whatever, but for me, going 140GT to 170GT is the best £750 you can spend on a TDI Roc.

Kev: If the deal hasn't been done yet then it's a maybe, but if it's an order addition then I doubt he'd be that lucky, but once again, shy bairns get nowt!

Have answered the question - going through the numbers I realised my discount is actually £3605 - so apologies for my over estimate figure....

If anyone is interested I got a set of these for my fathers honda. Look very standard issue and work well. Also if you already have a scirocco and go to dealer then what you get is not the same as original factory fit option. The graphic in the head unit does not come with dealer option retrofit, found that info on vw site.
