Trade in values
Trade in values
Hey folks, Im selling my car and looked at the other for sale for guidance on private sale however I may look to trade as there are very few private sale for the car Im looking at.
Has anyone tried trading there car in recently and what sort of difference did you see between private and trade in?

Re: Trade in values
You should get a little more private than trade in, but I wouldn't expect to get what a main dealer would. Also remember very few cars sell for their advertised price.

That wasnt my experience, VW offered 13K for my 58 plate trade in, only £12,250 for buyback, and privatley i sold it for only £12,950, i orignally had it on at £14,000 but got zero interest.

Re: Trade in values
Not many people are willing to pay more than £10k privately for a car, even if it will save them a few grand on the forecourt price. Most people like the reassurance of having the dealer as a safety net rather than buying "sold as seen" at that pricepoint with little or no warranty. Dealers are handy for those wanting finance too, especially if their financial circumstances mean they won't get the greatest private bank loan rate. This is why the dealerships get repeat business, part-exing.
Aim to get part ex money for a private sale, and for that reason a lot of people would look to save the hassle of a private sale and just part-ex against a newer one.

Re: Trade in values
Godd point on the value, doesnt bother me but I can see why it would bother some. I suppose mine with 7months VW warranty will help though.

Re: Trade in values
min has just over 18k v good condition.
Traded up against the Giulietta Cloverleaf.
Also looked at BMW 1-series, Mazde 3 MPS. Didnt get quotes from them vo.
other alfa dealers were saying i am lucky to being offered 15k for it, think i should be getting 14k or so..
im still considering getting the alfa.

Re: Trade in values
Giulietta cloverleaf is a fine car, i liked the DNA switch ( although im not sure if its in the cloverleaf model ) the only gripe for me was the driving position. nowhere to rest your left foot, i went for a C250 Coupe in the end though.

I drove the CL and its mental in Dynamic mode, an absolute beast makes the scirocco tame.
im still contemplating over getting one for the scirocco. iS that wise, a VW for ALFA. but im really pulling hairs i cant make my mind up. i like the VW but im in love with the QV. Im just concerned with alfa build quality. but i havent exactly been problem free with my VW anyway lol

Re: Trade in values
I've currently got a boggo MK6 golf (candy white 3dr, 1.4s). When I enquired about a rocco I got offered £9300 PX, my car is Dec 2009 with only 7K miles. I was well chuffed with that price. When I showed a little interest at a Seat dealership, the best they came up with was £7800, pretty big difference.
Re: Trade in values
Well Im looking at p/xing at an independant against a similar cost RS4 so its good to see what people have been offered. Im not totally getting ripped off then.

Re: Trade in values
The bugbear with Alfa build quality is a thing off the past, the new models ( Mito, Guilietta ) are trouble free, i wouldnt hesitate, the only weak link in the alfa chain is the poor quality of their dealerships, Cloverleaf is a beast!Danscirocco wrote:I drove the CL and its mental in Dynamic mode, an absolute beast makes the scirocco tame.

Re: Trade in values
Don't forget the poor residual values on the Alfa too, not a problem for the lucky company car people, but you'll lose a good few grand more on the Alfa over 3 years if you buy new. Better off buying a car with bad depreciation at 2 years old and getting it nigh on half price.albertz33 wrote: The bugbear with Alfa build quality is a thing off the past, the new models ( Mito, Guilietta ) are trouble free, i wouldnt hesitate, the only weak link in the alfa chain is the poor quality of their dealerships, Cloverleaf is a beast!

Re: Trade in values
fortunately my dad can get a staff discount, i would get the car for 21000 not 25k it RRP. It softens the blow i suppose.
but ive decided to keep vw now, theres too much financial risk for me to trade it, when my roc is paid off! besides it still looks the nts!

Re: Trade in values
I've been looking for a Scirocco for about a month now, last weekend I was in a main dealer who offered me less than webuyanycar for my Golf,he said that was "Cap average" this was against a 08 GT TSI at £15k, I asked what's the "Cap average" on the Scirocco your trying to sell me? Answer, Erm, I don't know, that's the sales managers department!
