Squeaky window seals
The window seals have been driving me nuts lately every time the windows drop when unlocking the car they give this squeak I happened to mention it to a mate who said his new 3 series BMW had a squeaky door seal and his dealer told him about a BMW product called "Gummi pflege" he bought some its an aerosol which cost £5, I tried some on the Scirocco's window seals and as if by magic the squeaks are gone...
Next time I'am passing the BMW dealers a tin will be mine...

Re: Squeaky window seals
Had the same problem about a week ago on the driver's window. Its seems the winter freezing solutions are equally as useful in summer, your's Gummi pflege, mine Krytox.

Re: Squeaky window seals
Been using in for years but not in aerosol form. Mine has a foam pad on the end which you just rub over the seals.
Bought it off Ebay, not expensive at all.

Re: Squeaky window seals
That sounds a better idea as squirting aerosols around a thin rubber seal normally leads to loads of overspray. Must check that out.Ian_Mac wrote:Been using in for years but not in aerosol form. Mine has a foam pad on the end which you just rub over the seals.

Spray it on a cloth and rub it in, not directly on the seal...

Re: Squeaky window seals
I went into VW last night to discuss my squeaky windows and asked about using krytox and they said I could try but the have never heard of people needing to use it. They suggested trying the stuff they use on the EOS roof seals as no product exists especially for the scirocco so i bought a little tester kit that comes in the form of 3 cloths:
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/acce ... y=car-care" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
One problem though, the packet says not to be used on seals that come in contact with glass. Does anybody know if this is true or whether I can just go ahead and use it? VW didn't mention I shouldn't use it but then they might not know what they are talking about.
PS. I think the product is actually gummi pflege.

Re: Squeaky window seals
The VW krytox is actually called VW Special Lubricant and the part number is G 052 172 A1 , be warned though its about £35 a bottle IIRC
Here is mine
I managed to get a few bottles of the Rover version (the same stuff) on eBay for much cheapness

Re: Squeaky window seals
Bloody hell Shaun !! THat's an awful lot of lubricant. You having some sort of weird party
I bought some Gummi pflege for about £6 off ebay and it will last me for years. Each application lasts about 9 months and there is no apprant effects on the glass. There's nothing on the instructions for Gummi pflege that tells you to avoid contact with glass so I don't think its the same as the VW stuff.
I tried silicone spray before but that wasn't very good.

Re: Squeaky window seals
I use Gummi pflege with the foam pad applicator. Brilliant stuff! Use it summer and winter or whenever the seals start squeaking again.
Look no further - eBay £7 - £8 if I remember.

Re: Squeaky window seals
I've bought a few bottles of the above stuff from here:

Hopefully does the job.

Re: Squeaky window seals
You will have to regularly apply it but not every week, more like every so often ... 2 to 3 months. So keep the applicator in the boot handy.
As it also useful at this time of year to apply on the lower seal as well to prevent the frost/ice locking up the windows before leaving the Scirocco overnight and you know there's to be some frost/ice. (Even if your Scirocco has the new window rubber mod for frozen windows introduced on Sciroccos built from late May 2010 onwards.)

Re: Squeaky window seals
Hi thanks for the tips . I did apply it to the lower seal as I read a few stories on here of being locked out of the car.RW1 wrote:You will have to regularly apply it but not every week, more like every so often ... 2 to 3 months. So keep the applicator in the boot handy.

Re: Squeaky window seals
I didn't find the silicone spray anywhere as near as good as that Gummi bear stuff Windows could be squeaking again within 2 weeks with the silicunt spray. With Gummi Pflege it lasts 4 or 5 months.sciroccorocket wrote:I just use Silicone spray
