Possible company car - Is the basic spec worth it?

Hi all,

This is my first post after joining up today. I have just been given the company car list at my new job and one of the cars that I can get is a 2.0tdi Bluemotion, in the base spec. The GT spec is not there unfortunately as that takes it out of budget according to our office manager. I have long fancied getting a scirocco so I am tempted but I am not 100% sure whether I am missing out on lots of essential things by not getting a GT spec.

I have looked at the specs and the things that I think I would not get are front fogs, Dual zone climate, multi-function steering wheel and chrome exhaust, is this right or have I missed anything else? There is enough room in the budget to get the multi function steering wheel but nothing else.

I think I can live with this spec but maybe you owners can tell me otherwise and if there are key things the basic spec is mising that I wouldn't be able to live without?

yep thats pretty much all the extras you get with the gt trim
if the budget can stretch i'd say get the multifunction steering wheel, its the one thing I probably would have added to my order but its no hardship without it. (its also imo probably one of the most common things people don't add to their order and then want to retrofit later which can not be)

Well they aren't as desirable as the Scirocco. The focus gets talked up a lot and the titanium x comes with a lot of kit and I could be tempted by the golf but despite their reputation I have always found the golf a bit boring to look at.

I am thinking I should just go for the Scirocco as its got most of the kit I will ever need. I never ever use front fogs and can take or leave tinted rear windows. I would be a bit nervous about life without cruise though, especially as I do a lot of motorway miles.

Bit harsh, the Alfa ( im guessing is a Gulietta ) is actually quite a nice option, i test drove one two months ago as im looking for a replacement for my Scirocco and it was quite impressive, and well specced in veloce.

When i had a base Scirocco it didnt have the proper highline display and the extra functions that come with it or multi function wheel my previous Golf Gt had,i missed both but if i hadnt had them before i probably wouldnt.

I think if you spec the multi function wheel then you get the highline computer? Either that or it's now standard as I seem to remember it listed somehow when I compared it.

After nearly 3 years of living with the roc day in and day out there are only two options i'd add - mf wheel and highline computer as i find the touchscreen to be a bit of a pain to use on the move and the highline to be able to see the oil temp

if it was company hack i'f prob go Alfa Gulietta given it wasn't my hard earned or the rocco

at other multifunction wheel is what i'd most miss and highline

If i were you i would go for the Romeo or the Titanium & buy a rocco with all the specs or atleast a m.f steering wheel..you'd aprreciate the rocco more if you actualy paid for it, and it's a car that you are actually passionate about..The company i work for also gave me a list and one of them was Lexus IS 350 which is my day to day car and my Rocco is my weekend car .

I have a 59-plate TDI 140, base spec, no options as a company car. It was already slightly over budget, hence the Candy White - I couldn't even stretch to metallic paint.

If I had been buying it myself, the GT trim is definitely worth the extra, but I can honestly say that I love my car and don't really miss any of the extras.

If I get another one in two years, and there's a bit more room in the budget, I'd go for the 170 engine, metallic paint, and possibly leather - one of my kids barfed in the back and it was a nightmare to get it out of the meshy cloth seats...
