iPhone 4S may give true hands free driving...

Based on what I've read about the new iPhone announced today, the new voice recognition could be a great addition to those of us who have used the iPhone with Voice Control.
The "Siri" software will take natural speech and convert it into texts, reminders or call commands.

In the article below, it seems that you could activate it from a bluetooth headset and that car integration is "coming"
A good overview video of the technology and it's potential is here..

Though since it's American tech, will it handle the accents over this side of the pond? :)

You have to have an active 3g connection for it to "communicate with siri servers" as well which depending on your location is not always possible

Fair point on the servers when retrieving Internet data but it hopefully simplifies local operations such as setting reminders, starting calls and even sending quick texts when you attention is rightly on the road.

I don't think it will be a problem as an ordinary user has it active 24/7.

Errr ... The iPHone 4 already has this sort of function. You can use voice commands to dial names in your Contacts directory, play songs, albums or artist and even search Google.
Press and hold the bottom button.

Is there not an app you can get to do this already? I heard that siri used to be available to download but has been removed and deactivated for those that have it. its only software so I don't see why they are limiting it to the new 4s apart from trying to make it stand out from the existing model.

Siri used to run on iPhone 2G ;-) Apple bought it (the company) and made it available only for the new 4S.
