My Scirocco was 1 week old yesterday and as a celebration, someone has dropped something on my bonnet and chipped/dented it.

It must have been the "white van" I was parked behind (now long gone!)

I would, my wife is convinced that people do it on purpose, driven most probably by jealousy. We had the same when we bought a new Ford Cougar, a trip to the seaside resulted in the back panel being kicked in. I'm still paranoid about our Roc and sit in it whilst the wife goes shopping in our local Tesco.

It'll depend where you live whether your car is met by admiration or jealousy/petty vandalism and what the other cars around it are like.

Lots of people are giving my car a good looking over daily (admiration) as they walk past our house - very popular dog walking route, as we've got a gated park at the front of the street. My car is nothing special in our street, apart from it's slight rarity as affordable cars go. If anyone was going to get some negative special attention in our street I guess it'd be the grey 911 or Black TTRS.

In my locality most people admire nice cars rather than despise them, even the charvas.

When I go shopping I try to park at the far end of the car park where there are no cars, but you always find someone parked next to it when you come back. Failing that, I try to park somewhere between cars worth considerably more than mine, hoping they'll take care not to clatter my car with their door as they don't want to scratch their own!

You realise you just admitted to owning one never mind buying a new one of them.

grrrr..... I hate it when this happens but its all too common, paricularly if you park on the street.
There is a distinct lack of respect for others property...

I think this was accidental/carelessness rather than deliberate vandalism but its still pretty annoying. We normally keep the car off road at home but are currently staying in the lake district where there is only on-road parking (albeit in a quiet street).

I do recall parking behind a builders van the night before and I expect that he did it loading something in through the back door then made a quick getaway before anyone noticed.

The dealership threw in a special insurance to cover minor damage like this but unfortunately horizontal surfaces such as the bonnet are excluded.

Don't you just love insurance exclusions Everything's included except the most likely scenarios.

That'll be the Smart replair. IMO your better of getting it done elsewhere anyway, there usually rubbish.

Can anyone suggest a good chip reapir company. My local VW dealership said it would need a full bonnet respray but before I go to that expense I would like to explore other options.

Its a very small chip - like a stone chip - but there was enough force to cause a small dent.

if it is accessable from inside the bonnet a good dent man may be able push it out, these guys are really clever. If they can maybe you can then just touch up the chip if it is as small as you say. No way would i let a smart repair anywhere near my car, they are usually crap, may look ok when first done but the paint will deteriate very quickly.

My roc was 4 days old and someone reversed into it while it was parked ON MY DRIVE!! they thought they would use my drive as a turning spot and then just decided to drive off leaving a very scuffed front bumper and cracked headlight and DRL. Then a month later some kids ran a key right the way around it and stabbed it into the bonnet. Joy. Not to mention people flinging their doors open in car parks.

I feel better now (sorry everyone else), our Roc made it a year before someone scuffed our back bumper and dented / chipped our front driver side door

Check out this topic, I had similar scenario with a new dent appearing on my bonnet right on the crease of the styling lines. Due to the pre-fab nature of the bonnet its unlikely you can push it out almost irrespective of the dent location.

I saw 3 different "smart repair" people and they all quoted me a "go away price" of circa £300-£400. Most were honest and said they couldnt do it - the best they could hope for was a 90-95% job.

I took it to a local bodyshop company who I know very well, so they did a full filler/respray job and its now impossible to tell it ever happened - £250!

I recently had a stone hit my bonnet and the passenger side a pillar which has left a deep chip on the paintwork. I put my car into the local VW garage for their smart repair, but to say that I am less than happy would be a bit of an understatement.

The chip itself has been smoothed out very well, but the paint match isn't very good at all. In fact, it almost looks like it is a different colour. Several other people have looked at it too, and had said the exact same thing. The repairer stated that he couldn't get as good colour match as he had of hoped and mentioned something about colour matching being difficult.

I don't pretend to know much about painting, but I was always under the impression that darker colours are easier to match, mine is Indium Grey.

My question is, using a smart repair, how difficult would it be to get a good colour match on the vehicle?
