Polo 1.4TSi GTI DSG vs Scirocco 1.4TSi

Post by scavern »

So I had my mind set on getting a Scirocco 1.4TSi... then I saw that the Polo 1.4TSI GTI DSG appeared to be better in every aspect (except looks). It has better performance and is more fuel efficient !

I'm looking at getting a `roc as soon as the end of the week. Am I crazy for even considering a Polo ?

Polo is more like ' young girl's first car', regardsless of what engine it has. As soon as you mention Polo, thats the imagery i get.

You will regret buying the polo. Not an enjoyable drive.

You might as well go for a lupo or fox :)

I have recently been out in a Polo Gti, it goes well but because it is lower down the food chain than the Scirocco the cabin trim really suffers. It is not a bad interior when compared to some other manufacturers but it is clearly a cheaper interior than the Scirocco so not such a nice place to be. The cheapest Polo gets pretty much the same interior as the GTI therefore it has to be as the base Polo is significantly cheaper than the base Scirocco. As most of the Roc interior is carry over from other models, this has allowed them to spend the money elsewhere. The driving position is much lower and has a more sporty feel, the Polo definately feels like a hatchback and is missing that something that makes the Roc a little special for me.

Also the Audi A1 is leagues above the Polo, if you are concerned about fuel economy then i would say look at the A1 1.4 TFSI S-line. Not as quick as the Polo or Scirocco but having driven my wifes i can say it is certainly not a slow car, it feels really lively when driven hard. I would also go as far to say that the interior is better than the Scirocco. There are some good used ones about and you could even go for 185 ps. Good luck with your choice.

Fancy a used 2.0 TSI DSG Roc :D ?

That's the problem with these types of posts and questions, there is no right answer.

I have faced a similar dilemna with what to get next now my Roc is due to be changed.

Everyone has an opinion and some don't understand why i have gone for what i have.

My advice as always is test drive them all.

Same sort of dilema when we went to change our Volvo. I wanted to look at the Golf GTD, yet my wife fell in love with the Roc. I thought that the Roc wouldn't be as practical for us as the GTD but now I find it suits us perfectly well. I'm so glad I went for the Roc. It really is a good looking car and drives exceptionally well. I don't think you get people coming up to a Polo and just standing there admiring it.
