Going to France
Do you still have to stick black 'dipped' stickers on the headlights of cars that are going to be driven in France? How about a GB sticker?

Re: Going to France
I think so. Unless youve got a euro plate with the GB on the left hand side of it.
Re: Going to France
headlight conversion is a legal requirement as is a GB sticker if you don't have Euro spec reg plates with the GB on it.
also be aware that you need first aid kit / spare bulbs / warning triangle / fluorescent jacket in the car within reachable distance from drivers seat.

Re: Going to France
In France, only warning triangle and fluorescent jacket are compulsory, spare bulbs and first aid kit are recommended. More information on RAC's website: http://www.rac.co.uk/driving-abroad/france/GTI2RocR wrote:headlight conversion is a legal requirement as is a GB sticker if you don't have Euro spec reg plates with the GB on it.

Out of interest, has anyone here fitted headlamp converters to the Scirocco? Where's the best place to get them from and are they easy to remove once back in the UK?

Re: Going to France
Black electrical tape cut to shape and placed over the outlined areas works well and it can be easily peeled off later. In the past I never bothered with headlight conversion on the continent for a daytrip, but that was before I had a car whose lights are on during the day!
Make sure you get the triangle and jacket - French police do spot checks and hand out hefty fines, they specifically target GB cars knowing that most of Europe already comply, but we probably won't have them.

The VW part is 1K8 998 981A at £17.50 which is expensive for a couple of black patches. One thing it does take care of is the adhesive not damaging the plastic headlight cover (chemical reactions).SeventySix wrote:Out of interest, has anyone here fitted headlamp converters to the Scirocco? Re: Going to France
You can get a set of universal converters for under £5 off ebay...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EUROLITES-Headlam ... 5638cabdcb
I stuck them on and they fell off, and simply keep the packaging in the car. Was stopped once and simply showed them the fact it must have fallen off and they were fine about it.
Yes, you need flourscent vest and triangle. Again fleabay is a good source for these - paid a couple of quid for each.

Re: Going to France
Don't worry about the main beam deflectors, I never do
I live in France but whenever I come home to Blighty nobody ever flashes me so I guess I'm not bothering anyone
You probably have GB on your reg plate so no need for the sticker if this is the case
Folks are right about the warning triangle in the boot and the yellow vests which must be in the passenger compartment so you can put them on before you get out of the car
Spare bulbs are not a legal requirement

Re: Going to France
Thanks everyone,
Would have forgotten about those things.
Not going 'till the summer and then driving a LONG way down. Would have been fun to go to Le Mans, though!

Do these work the same way with Bi-Xenons? or do i need to do something different for Xenons?RW1 wrote:The VW part is 1K8 998 981A at £17.50 which is expensive for a couple of black patches. Re: Going to France
You can get high viz vests in some Poundland stores.
I can rely on my car, it's my Roc!!!

Re: Going to France
Halfords did a European driving kit - a bit pricey, but includes everything. And proved very handy the other day when I had to change the bulb in one of my sidelights.

Driving the Roc in France would be great!
I'm taking mine to the Alps sometime, blast round the mountain roads together with a photoshoot with views of dreams! haha It's on my list either this summer or next.

Re: Going to France
Wow this caught me out , just looking at the headlamps on a Roc I cannot imagine where the deflectors would go, I assummed that modern light systems might not need them , has any one got an image of where they should go??

Re: Going to France
Hi,
I am also off to France soon in my scirocco, have picked up the headlight converters from Halfords, the instructions and place to stick the converters on. It's to the lower left of the central bulb (which has a little VW logo on)
I haven't got the rest of the kit that I need yet thought.
Cheers,
Phil

Re: Going to France
Thanks , to get the hi-vis jackets , I tried Poundland and Poundworld who do stock them but hadn't got any in , I ended up buyng them at wilkinson for £2.37 each
Re: Going to France
halford converters are massively overpriced, you can pick up the same for £4-£5 from web or local motorist discount centre, picked up a bulb kit and first aid kit from vw last week for when i take the rocco over to france in august
remember you need to keep the high vis vests in the passenger compartment not the boot
