DRLs - new EU laws require some form of lights to be on at all times, VW make it the dipped beam. All your auto light settings do now is switch on the dashlights when dark.

As maisbitt says its the daytime running lights.. .

Depending on the year of the car you have you can switch them off manually by doing some sequence with the indicator stork (I think its 59 plates and earlier, maybe wrong). I know my 59 plate can be done manually as I have done it and it is detailed in the cars manual.

If your cars newer than that I think its possible to get them switched off by a dealer/vw specialist, you'd have to look into that tho.. .

(If you do not live in the EU) you should be able to turn them off through an option in the MFD.

Mine is a 10 plate and the MFD method does not work (even though described in the handbook and attemted by the dealer). VW flatly refused to help or even listen to me when I explained they had disabled a feature (auto dusk lights) I had paid for.
The only way is VAGCOM / VCSD. Where in the country are you?
