Its solely to do with the 1.4TSi Supercharger drive, ie the clutch on the that is integral to the water pump drive.

HEYY guys that is not a turbo sound,it comes from water pump which has code on starting with L. So it must be change starting with J that is produced with new component. Everybody benefit in garanty.

Finally after a long wait my 1.4 TSi is at the dealers...then I come across this thread!
Is it still a problem? Any resolution?
Its taken the gloss off ordering it ... am I now going to drive it anticipating an annoying sound appearing soon?

alfdisco,

Your dealer must be one of the few that doesn't know! It's even in the Scirocco technical maintenance manual how to advise the customer. See one of the posts in the two topics below as well as generally about the 1.4TSi squeak problem.

Supercharger Squeak 1
Supercharger Squeak 2

My squeak has now more or less gone after 5,000 miles.

yesterday the repair guy called me and said that he spoke with VW and apparently the solution is to replace the water pump, the question is should i do it?

As RW1 says it goes away eventually, mine has aswell. All the replacement water pumps that vw have tried the squeak has come back again so its not really a solution

The risk you take with the new pump/clutch unit is that it either works and stays silent or it comes back earlier (~1,000 - 1,500 Km) than the old one. Some from almost zero KM have been reported. And it squeaks even louder.

Just replaced the clutch for a new one, took 2hr and cost me 25$ for the new anti-freeze
maybe it's psychological but it seems that the car response is better now...

Just ticked over 2k and I now have my very own squeak too! Not too fussed, doesn't make it any less fun to drive, and gives me an excuse to turn the Dynaudio up :P

Hi all

Bought my 1.4 TSi at the end of July with 100 miles on the clock. This annoying sweak appeared about 1000miles. Saw this thread and booked it into my local dealer. They believe it's to do with the water pump, that VW is now aware of the issue and I've got the part on order... Update next week. At leats they know.

Hi Geezer :wave:
yes the 'hamster squeak' is well know amongst us 1.4 owners (have a search as its been covered several times before) but is different to the whistling that is referred to above.
from investigation into it in Germany it was found that replacing parts won't fix it as it will come back & iirc may actually leave you with it for longer (will try to find a link to the post but may come up in the search), I had it but its long gone now (have just past 10k & its been gone for at least 3k or more)

So it goes with time...Not what you expect of a 20K car!!! Next week is my part change, hopefully it will change my birdie under my foot. The tech boy let me see the VW diagnostic breakdown but would not let me have it. Secrets ...

Geezer
some links for the 1.4 squeek
http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... eak#p48806" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... ter+squeak" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... 1.4+squeek" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
as mentioned the squeak will go with the parts being changed but will more than likely return again in a few k, personally I just turned the radio up abit & changed gear slightly later where it didn't occur it the rev range till it was gone for good :shrug:

& now for this topic to return to the 2.0TSi whistling..

Had mine just over a week now and I get a short squeak on my 1.4 160 DSG already. started at about 200 miles. Only squeaks from stationary using mild to hard acceleration. Gentle acceleration doesn't seem to make it do it. Never done it yet when driving at speed though, only from stationary. Is this what everyone's talking about or do you think I have a different issue? Thanks guys.
