Am i the first...
Am i the first to need a new windscreen???!! Had it cracked over a week ago from a rogue stone from a lorry, however, its taken till today for Autoglass to get hold of a new one in the uk! Its coming direct from VW and being fitted Sunday. Bloody Lorries!

You may will be. Although probably not the "first" you would have liked though.

I feel your pain. I cracked my Mini windscreen on the way home from the showroom a few years back.

Re: Am i the first...
The rain sensor isn't part of the screen. It just sticks on the inside, the only thing that differs between a rain sensor screen and a standard one is the black surround stuff is a different shape. Rain sensors don't actually sense moisture, just the different angles that light crosses the screen when wet / dry.

i know, what i meant was do autoglass reattach that to the new screen or do you have to get vw to do it?

Re: Am i the first...
Autoglass ask if you have rain sensors to check that they are getting you the right windscreen. They disconnect it (leave it hanging basically) fit the new windscreen and reconnect it all up. I had one fixed on my golf 4 months ago and they even checked it was working properly with me their before they left, and they normally check the condition of your wipers too!

Re: Am i the first...
Driving through the New Forest today a 4*4 in front of me threw up 2 stones, one has caused a crack on nearside of windscreen several cm long, and the other on the other side has chipped it slightly. Never had that happen before, so I guess I will be looking at replacement
Re: Am i the first...
i've just had autoglass around this morning repairing a chip in mine which was repairable

Re: Am i the first...
That's good that yours could be repaired wigit, I have been in touch with my insurer and the screen needs to be replaced The length of the crack is about 10cm. It will cost me £75 excess!
It's AutoWindscreens that will replace it, not sure how good they are. On such a new car I will be wanting to ensure they do the job properly!

Re: Am i the first...
would be interested to see how quick they get hold of it as i need a new rear screen (2 non functioning screen heating elements) & its looking like at least a 2 week wait

Re: Am i the first...
As adamj says , at least you're getting a genuine part
A couple of years back I had a new windscreen in my month old new car,
it probably doesn't really matter that it was not a genuine part but you know how finicky we all are with our new toys It just pisses you off for some reason

Yes - I phoned AutoWindscreens this morning, they said they have them in stock (within a Warehouse in Birmingham). I did ask about genuine VW stock, he said they would have to contact my insurer to authorise replacment with genuine VW screen.trix wrote:would be interested to see how quick they get hold of it as i need a new rear screen (2 non functioning screen heating elements) & its looking like at least a 2 week wait

Mind you - they then said it will probably be a genuine VW screen anyway. I am still waiting call back but I doubt if it will be done before Christmas!

Re: Am i the first...
Windscreen now replaced, (by AutoWindscreens) I was wincing when they were ripping out the rubber seals but equally amazed to see how easily the trim and bits and pieces come off, seemed like the car was being dismantled before my very eyes!
2 guys had to do the job, first Scirocco they had ever done, so sent 2 technicians to it. Both admired the car
After 20 mins all back in one piece, and job looks good but have not driven it yet!
£75 lighter now and hopefully that does not happen again!
