Fuel Pump Failure

Post by jonallen628 »

Just thought i would share my recent experience with you. Just a mile from home having done a 200 mile round trip my Engine light came on then "Worshop" came up on the MFD.The engine started to stutter then stopped. It wouldn't re-start.

Unfortunately this is when i realised the complimentary VW assist is only for one year. :fall:

So after joining the RAC they quickly came out. Initially they tried the diagnostics port, then some electrical testing and finally resorted to taking a hammer to the fuel pump :eyepop: all to no avail. Eventually resorted to towing me to my local dealer where it was left over the weekend.

To cut the rest of the story short, the car was in the workshop for a week and needed a new fuel pump, injectors and a catalyst. Hate to think what the bill would have been if out of warranty.

Apparently one of the injectors was stuck open so when the new fuel pump was fitted the engine spewed neat fuel out of the exhaust system all over the workshop. :fall: Hence the new Catalyst.

All is well now, seems to be running better than it has been for a while. Now have 40000 on the clock after 26 months of ownership and still love the car when opening the taps up even in standard tune it is a lot of fun.

Hopefully none of you suffer the same problems, if anything it is just a warning to top up your VW assistance once the initial year has completed. Also reminds me why i stick to cars with a warranty.

Happy Motoring.

I had the same problem on 58 reg after about 15k. was gutted but vw fixed it no problem.

Now after being hit in the roc by a van damaging the suspension it has been in the garage for 4 weeks already with no sign of new parts to fix it. NOT HAPPY.
